We were very happy with the wonderful hospitality and wines at Pope Valley. Our hostess, Brooke, made us feel very welcome.
This is a long curvy drive from St Helena (made longer by my missing a turn), but well worth the effort. The wines are good (we bought three bottles) and the friendliness and history are great. We enjoyed the tour of the old gravity-flow winery and cave and the conversation with Brooke. A long way from the majority of the Napa Valley and refreshingly different from most Napa wineries.

This quaint little vinyard and tasting yard is worth the 20-30 minute drive up from the valley. Unpretentious, small, friendly, and historic. The history of the place, which goes back to the 1890s, is fascinating. No crowds on a Saturday in March when we were there. A flight of six REALLY DECENT wines for about $30. Tour of the small, but fascinating hand-hewn cave, which was behind the barn and hidden during Prohibition. This place is really worth a visit for the history and the wine. Super-friendly!

I loved this place best of all in Napa. Small family run winery with super friendly owners. Wine storage is a hand dug cave. Not commercial but small friendly family feel. A bit off the beaten trail but that is the charm and well worth the trip

We stumbled across this lovely winery. We shared a tasting as one of us was driving. The lady who talked us through the wines was so lovely and it was nice to just sit and chat with someone who knows about the wines and the area. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Napa

What a surprise and contrast after visiting Castello di amoroso and sterling winery to find this little winery in the middle of nowhere.
It was just by chance we went there , on the map it had a golden start, and I had read that the previous day they had a roasting pig event, so I was expecting a fairly big size winery, to our surprise after driving for quite a while in gorgeous country, thank goodness for our GPS, here is the little winery, you feel you are going back 100 years, the tasting room sure looks that way, the wine tasting was great and the "pourer" were great, we got to take a peak inside where the wine master was crushing some grapes and we saw the cave the first owner excavated, impressive, even so the weather was warm, in the dig up cave it was so cool
It was the perfect winery after the two previous ones, a total contrast, equally interesting, wine was good, the only place we purchased , a very interesting story, a tribute to generations of pioneers who had the vision and dedication to make it work
The winery is a must to visit, away from the businesses of the Napa valley

Sam, our hostess at Pope Valley created us with a smile and a delightfully crisp 2018 Rose'. From there we tasted estate grown Sauv Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet, all while Sam told us the history of the founding of the 1897 historic ranch. Pope Valley Winery sits in a picturesque Valley with views of rolling hills. The old barn which is the winery was built into the side of a hill and hand dug out over 9 years in the late 1800's. A tour of the winery is a must. Award winning wines. Go see Sam, she's delightfully funny and makes you feel like family.

We were driving past and decided to stop in. Shawn (sp?) in the tasting room was so hospitable. We did a classic tasting (my faves were the Sauv Blanc and Rose!) and then she took us to see the cellar and cave. We bought a glass to enjoy on the cute patio, and Shawn even brought us some grapes to try! Top notch service, and such a relaxing visit. Thank you Shawn!!

Pope Valley winery is a different Napa experience: cozy, quiet, with beautiful rolling hills and a hand carved wine cellar from the late 1800s. You may take your own basket and try their wonderful Wines. Assure decanting and allow aeration for the best Sangiovese in the area.

After a full day of Napa, we ended here at Pope Valley. The wooden tasting "shed" was the opposite of the massive production experienced earlier in the day. The sommelier was wonderfully accommodating and gracious with her expertise and service. During the first part of our visit we were the only ones around. We selected the full tastings and sat in the setting sun surrounded by stacked barrels and the just-harvested vines up the hillsides. A dreamy moment. We see they're for sale, but alas we can only just afford the wine, not the entire winery! (We've since called and they survived the horrible fires. So sad for the region..........)
