About
Heidrun Meadery produces brut dry, naturally sparkling, single-varietal mead (wine made from fermented honey) using the traditional French Methode Champenoise. Along with world-class meadmaking, we have a beekeeping operation and a bee forage cultivation program. Our tasting room is open 7 days a week. You are welcome to drop in for a tasting ($20-$25), or reserve a spot on one of our Tours that are offered on the weekends ($25). Enjoy a glass or bottle of mead on our patio with a picnic. Come visit a place like no other!

Our group of 8 celebrated my Mom’s birthday at Heidrun Meadery. It was our first visit there. The staff made it extra special by reserving an indoor table for us (it was a rainy day), and even had a little vase with flowers for my Mom! We really appreciated the personal touch!
We have been to many wineries and done many wine tastings, but we were not familiar with meads. There are different types of flights to try, and we enjoyed the “essential” and “world” flights. The staff is very helpful in explaining the different flights and types of honeys used to make the meads. This was a fun adventure, and a more intimate and rural setting than what you experience at larger wineries in Sonoma and Napa.
There is a main tasting room, which is quite airy, and has views of the outside grounds, which also have picnic tables to use when the weather is good. The scenery is beautiful and green right now, from the rain.
Heidrun is around a few minutes drive from downtown Pt. Reyes Station, where you can easily pick up some lunch and other food from the shops there. For this occasion, we packed a whole picnic lunch from home, which went really well with the mead flights we purchased.
We’d love to come back and go on a tour when flowers have bloomed in the Spring.

Stopped in on a drive by. What a find!
Champagne method for mead production - absolutely delicious. Bubbly mead. Loved it.
The tasting is perfect. Enjoy the gardens and wild flowers. And grab 3 bottles to go (and the tasting is then free)!

The folks at Heidrun Meadery have created a unique experience that goes well with any visit to Sonoma or Marin Counties, and points West. Have visited a few times now, and the sparkling mead gets better with each trip! Definitely stop by if you’re anywhere near Pt. Reyes Station! Today we enjoyed a pig roast!!

I highly recommend this place to mead lovers. If you're not sure but are a sparkling wine/champagne lover or fan of any brewing arts, you're probably going to like this place as well. What makes Heidrun so special beyond their meads are stunningly delishicious is how they focus on the honey. Every mead variety is brewed the same (champagne practices, same yeast, same water, etc) with the only variation being the honey used. This is a really unique opportunity to directly experience just how much variation in flavor honey can have. With the light body and bubbles to help enhance, it really brings out nuances that might otherwise be otherwise overlooked. Their flight tasting is the perfect way to try them all side by side.

This is a really cute property and an easy stop if you're headed into or out of Point Reyes Station. The mead is a unique formulation. If you are a traditional mead drinker, open your mind a little bit as "a little bit" is the only room Heidrun needs to kick down the door the rest of the way and make you happy that it did. Water, honey, and champagne yeast makes for a not-overly sweet bubbly mead that really does drink like a champagne or prosecco. The staff is super friendly. Tastings are reasonably priced. The grounds themselves are like a giant garden catering to bees and hummingbirds. If you are able to go on an event weekend, do. We were there for the holiday release event which included a local oyster vendor, an open fire in the outdoor firepit, and s'mores. Simple, but really well done.

You know pretty quickly upon arrival that this is something different. Following the tasting directional sign, there is a sign instructing you to ring a dinner bell, mounted on a pole to alert the staff of your arrival. Doing as instructed, my server and mead guide joined me in the greenhouse. Yes, greenhouse. The tasting experience starts not in a traditional tasting room, but rather at a wooden bar set-up in the corner of a active greenhouse. Behind the bar was a line of old, rusted, garden rakes mounted and used as hangers for the Champagne flutes.
I have only tasted mead (honey wine) on one previous occasion. Heidrun meads were completely different. All of the meads are made as sparkling wines (méthode Champenoise). Not only that, but they were dry to semi-sweet and not sweet as the previous meads I had tasted. The server was friendly and very knowledgeable about the mead making process and the sources of the various honeys used by Heidrun. I learned that the significant difference in flavor is based strictly on the origin of the honey. My favorite was a dry variety made from hives in Oregon, pollinating radish blossoms. My only regret is not having purchased a case; as I found-out too late that they do not currently ship to my state.
A different, fun and enjoyable tasting experience. Highly recommend!

A longtime mead (honey wine) lover, I was delighted to learn about this meadery in the same town where we were staying on vacation. Heidrun uses champagne methods to produce sparkling versions that are lighter and brighter than the usual product found in the U.S. If you're not used to the sparkling version, it takes some getting used to, but it is delightful and allows you to taste the differences between the kinds of honey used. The tasting flight is a great value and allows you to taste five different varieties Heidrun produces from honey they procure from near and far flung sources. If you're lucky, they'll also have some of the product made from the honey they've started to produce on sight (my personal favorite). The tour costs $5 more per person, and while brief, it is well worth it if you're interested in seeing their production area and in learning about the bottling process. The property is a former dairy farm and has been converted to a delightful location for a visit.

After a nice hike, our group of nine stopped to visit the cordial people at Heidrun Meadery. We sampled five types of mead and from our knowledgeable host we learned about the type of honey and the method used in making each one. I highly recommend this visit for the taste and the information you will learn about how the bees and the people at this establishment work together.

We have passed this place many times and finally stopped for a tasting. The tasting room is in a pretty little hot house, and there's a bell posted outside that you ring to announce your arrival (this is still an undiscovered find for the most part). $15 gets you a flight of all but one of their meads, all of which are made by the méthode Champenoise, and were not at all what I expected - in a good way. All of the options were light and drier than I'd expected, and I took home a bottle made from radish honey.
You can also buy a glass of mead, including the mead they make with local honey.
Our hostess was warm, welcoming and very informative. I'd definitely recommend coming in for a tasting if you are in the area.

Following a lead in a Marin food magazine in a coffee shop, and wanting an adventure on a holiday Monday afternoon, our group of four visited. We weren't able to time our visit for a tour but we enjoyed a tasting flight of four meads, plus one additional. None of us had ever tasted mead. We were all pleasantly surprised at how the smells and flavors varied so that each sparkling mead was distinct from a clover to a radish to macademia nut to orange to a carrot mead. Everyone had their favorites and could envision foods and events that would go with each flavor. In our party, we bought clover, macadamia, and a bunch of bottles of the carrot blossom mead for grooms at an upcoming wedding.
It was easy to find the place by watching house numbers along the highway and spotting a sign at the driveway. The highway is through the countryside of West Marin. There was parking for about 15-20 cars and there were some beautiful plants and flowers around the tasting room. The tasting room is in a small greenhouse filled with bee friendly plants for sale. There a few open jars of honey to taste and a small bar counter where the flights of mead are served. The staff were delightful.
I was a little disappointed that there was no food or snacks available. However, we went to nearby Point Reyes Station for late lunch after our tasting, and there are several dining options and some shops there.
So, in sum, I heartily recommend stopping in to check out this meadery. It would be really fun to combine it with a stop a West Marin creamery or two. Cheers!
