Drenched in fog most of the year, this lighthouse is one of the foggiest in the country, and is a great whale-watching spot in the fall and spring.

Great views, well worth the 300 steps!

The views of the ends of the earth from here are fabulous and well worth the 300 steps! Dress in layers as it is cool and windy

Nice little but somewhat out of the way detour. Because of it's location on a peninsula the drive in from the closest little town of Inverness is about an hour but walk in and the steps down to the actual lighthouse is another good 20+ mins. All in all, allow 3hrs. Nice historical site and you may see some whale... More

I was very disappointed that I could see nothing due to the fog, and could not walk the steps down to the lighthouse due to the strong winds. The steps are closed if winds exceed 40 mph. BUT, it was a lovely drive out. The visitor's center has a nice little museum, friendly and helpful rangers, and some postcards/gifts. We... More

Feels like the end of earth. Quite an effort to get there. The roads are rough and windy but the view is great. It is 300 steps plus a serious incline to get up and down, if you have bad knees don't consider it.

I've also be a fan of lighthouses and this one is certainly worth the effort of climbing down and up the many stairs to reach the lighthouse. Make the effort and you will be rewarded with some great views.

We took the drive out to the Point Reyes Lighthouse and encountered a moderate amount of fog as we drove in. As we hiked down toward the Lighthouse it was very chilly ( be sure to take a jacket) with a severe draft of fog coursing across us. The Lighthouse was mostly consumed by the fog, but there were breaks... More

We were surprised to see quite a few whales off the Point Reyes Lighthouse lookout deck. This is an awesome viewpoint, we were here in the spring so the whales were headed north for the summer months with there offspring. The lighthouse is a must see and about 30 minutes from Point Reyes Station. Popular destination so go early!

Visited here on a day the lighthouse was closed. Still worth a trip to experience the views of the Pacific- you literally feel like you are on top of the world and it is a breathtaking view. Just know that it is windy, windy, and WINDY, so come prepared for it.

The steps to the lighthouse are only open on certain days. It is a 1/2 mile from the parking lot to the lighthouse visitors station. They are equivalent to 30 stories if you walk down and back. Not for the weak at heart.

After a long, curvy drive we arrived....about an hour from San Rafael. Parking is very limited. Lots of cars parked on the sides of the road. No dogs allowed. We enjoyed the fog and mist, but it does limit some view. The walk is not easy out to the landing to the lighthouse. Then there is 30 flights down or... More
