It's worth the flight up 146 steps to see the Fresnel lens, which makes a small kerosene flame visible from twenty miles offshore.

Enjoyed being able to walk up to the top. Great view, interesting history. Bluff trail goes all the way to Point Arena I believe.

Very nice staffs. Leant some local earthquake history there. The lighthouse was not difficult to get up to the top. Nice view at the top.

It was fun to learn about the history of the Point Arena lighthouse. They allow visitors to climb the stairs all the way to the top and then a docent gives an interesting talk. The view is amazing.

This is the tallest lighthouse on the west coast. After a 2 mile meandering drive off the main hwy., you will see the payment kiosk. It's $7.50 for adults and only $1 for kids under 12. Pretty inexpensive! Take your tickets, park and check in at the museum where you can peruse all kinds of cool memorabilia to buy. The... More

My husband and I were treated by his daughter to a Full Moon tour of this historic lighthouse for Father's Day - and it was sensational! I believe they conduct these Full Moon tours during the summer months - and if you can attend one - it is well worth the $30 fee - plus it helps raise funds to... More

Located just off the PCH about 3 hours drive from San Francisco. The access road is about 2 1/2 miles through meadows and farmland. Bring some warm clothes - on a day when the temperature on the East side of the Coastal Range was 102-105 degrees, here it was barely 60 degrees and the breeze was downright chilly. Parking inside... The lighthouse tour is apparently suppose to begin with a little history, but the regular staff was out for the day, and sadly, the replacement simply skipped right to "Let's climb up." Even at the top, she whisked through some brief information, but it wasn't until we eavesdropped on the subsequent tour group that we learned any history on the... More

The light house sits on beautiful windswept spit of land overlooking the Pacific. According to the docent - Point Arena is the closest point to Hawaii on the continental USA. They offer daily tours of the light house which is 115 feet high, and about 150 circular 'feel the burn' steps. The view of the coast from that vantage point... More

I thought we were just going to have a walk around the outside of the lighthouse and admire the view from the cliffs. But there is quite a lot to see and do here - an interesting museum and a climb up to the old light room. The guided tour was very informative and I came away knowing a lot... More
