We taste in Amador frequently, and decided to try someplace new, so we popped in to Charles Spinetta. They have really nice wildlife art on the walls, and a gallery of even more upstairs. But the wine tasting experience was weird and disappointing. First, the stemware. They were the smallest glasses I’ve ever seen in a tasting room. That gives insufficient room to swirl and develop the nose. But maybe that was a good thing. On one wine, I was getting something unpleasant on the nose that I couldn’t quite name. My wife nailed it: fish scales. The way your hands smell when you’ve just been handling whole fish. That one was the low point for both of us, but none were up to Amador’s fine standards. They also make vinegar. So we were poured a taste of the vinegar. It was quite acidic, of course. Then the highlight of the visit was he added some black muscat to the glass to halve the acid and add some sweetness. That was good and interesting. So points for the experiment. But then we returned to the wine flight, and the next pour went into the same glass faster than we had a chance to object. Obviously, the residue of the vinegar experiment in the glass destroyed the next wine. The tasting room is rather dark, too. So if you like to evaluate color and clarity, it’s frustrating at Spinetta.

We have been here a few times and we love it. The wines are great and we love to look at all the art. We purchased a couple of pottery pieces here as well. They will even ship the wine home for you. My father has purchased a few wildlife art pieces and he loves them.

I absolutely love Spinetta wines, it is so hard to decide what to get when I am there. The owners are fantastic too, they always make me feel welcome when I come in and we all have a great time. One of my go to places when I am in the area

Sweet wines are their specialty and they do a great job on those. The true highlight is all the wildlife art work displayed. It was also cool that this is a generational family endeavor. Two for the great (or maybe great-great) grandsons assisted us with wine tastings. Really liked their prices and their attitudes.
