El Dorado Wine Country Tour from South Lake Tahoe

52 reviews
Visit the wineries near Lake Tahoe on this day trip to the El Dorado AVA (American Viticultural Area), a wine appellation outside the town of Placerville in the Sierra foothills. Accompanied by a wine guide, you’ll enjoy visits to multiple wineries, where tastings are included at the first three. Also included are a stop at Boa Vista fruit orchard, an outdoor picnic-style lunch, and transport from South Lake Tahoe. If you’re interested in wine or agriculture, this is a great way to see more of this region of Northern California.

I went on a Sunday and it was jam packed full of people. The majority of people were not wearing a mask or social distancing. Inside the shops it was so crowded and disorganized, it was maddening. The bathrooms were also disgusting.

Hill Hill is a must stop if you are in the Apple Hill Area. They are always improving their farm. More restroom, handicapped friendly, adding more artist, fishing pond, fudge factory, plenty of picnic tables, restaurant and great store "Apple barn" filled with a lot of goodies. Have a great time!

We had a fun time walking around High Hill Ranch, checking out all the vendors and finding a good pie to bring home. It was great seeing how spread out the grounds were, plenty of shaded areas under the trees around the pond, and a variety of local vendors to support. I’d love to come back, try more food and bring home a few more goodies. I guess I should write a small note re: COVID precautions, for those wondering. Bring a mask, but you won’t be crucified for not having it on all the time.

I really enjoyed my visit to the Apple Hill area in Placerville. This was my favorite stop during our visit. We purchased apples, Apple butter and donuts from their store. All of our products were great. The Apple Butter is delicious and they have some the best donuts ever. This is a great place to take the whole family.

Seemed to be just another craft fair to me, with the same stuff we see at all of them. Getting lunch was next to impossible, but our slice of pie was good and so was the apple shake (surprisingly). All the kids seemed to be having a good time; their parents not so much. Won't be returning.
