We were visiting Placerville and made a stop. It is January but weather was mild. Not crowded but exhibits were cold. Fun to read about the Gold Rush and associated history. The Ranger put a 10 minute film on for us - informative. The Blacksmith shop was open and men were talkative with lots of interaction.

As we both lived in Placerville ca,we decided at long last to visit. A very interesting day and very informative. It is best to go on a cooler day though.

My wife and I recently visited the El Dorado County Museum in Placerville, CA. We found it be a little treasure as it included a number of historical pictures and artifacts from the town and surrounding area. The staff was extremely friendly and answered all of our questions. The museum is easily found as it is on the "main drag"... More

If you're looking to spend an hour or so looking at artifacts from old California this is the place. No admission charge. The docents are full of information about the history of the locomotives, Studebakers, gold and vintage clothing & doll houses on display. I found it very interesting, and one member of our party truly loved the place. The... More

Small, out of the way museum that really captures the spirit of the town and the gold rush history. Many unusual items and a we had a very knowledgeable docent. Well worth an afternoon visit.

Went to the Museum during the fair this year with the grand kids, They had a blast looking at all the old items collected from the town we all grew up in. It was a good walk down a historical memory lane for all of us. The highlight was the maps of the old mines they have.

This an interesting stop with some visual history of the area. It seems this place has just evolved and is still being expanded. Would love to see it again in a few years when there is more on display and in a better organized format. Just haphazardly done now. Very nice volunteers to show you around. With such an interesting... More

This museum has a lot of Gold Rush history among other history of the area. Lots of old railroad cars outside, and mining equipment. Very well worth stopping to see, next to the fairground entrance.

We made a (too) quick stop on our way to Sacramento. Loved the exhibits inside but was wowed by the collection of steam engines, Pelton Wheels, stamping pressed, logging equipment, etc. Learned the origins of Studebaker!
