Went to the Museum during the fair this year with the grand kids, They had a blast looking at all the old items collected from the town we all grew up in. It was a good walk down a historical memory lane for all of us. The highlight was the maps of the old mines they have.

This an interesting stop with some visual history of the area. It seems this place has just evolved and is still being expanded. Would love to see it again in a few years when there is more on display and in a better organized format. Just haphazardly done now. Very nice volunteers to show you around. With such an interesting... More

This museum has a lot of Gold Rush history among other history of the area. Lots of old railroad cars outside, and mining equipment. Very well worth stopping to see, next to the fairground entrance.

We made a (too) quick stop on our way to Sacramento. Loved the exhibits inside but was wowed by the collection of steam engines, Pelton Wheels, stamping pressed, logging equipment, etc. Learned the origins of Studebaker!

This museum is one of the best little museums I have been to in ages. Stopped in the other day and was shocked at the artifacts from Placerville's past. This area has an amazing history, and not just because gold was discovered close by. Amazing people lived or traveled through here...like Ross E. Browne, John Studebaker and other notable characters... More

I'm reviewing the volunteers in the research room. I dropped by the research room today hoping to find information on an ancestor who lived in the area during the mid-1800's. I had only a few references to work from. The personnel in the research room could not have been more helpful. Even though I just showed up, 4 or 5... More

Went last Saturday and was delighted to get a docent led tour from a very knowledgeable man. Got to see all the stuff inside and outside where they keep a Shay under wraps during restoration.
