Next time you pass through Placerville, swing by this place. Tiny museum but very interesting, there's some fascinating history in this town. Ask for the little walking tours map as well. Definitely a cute little stop!

This was a really neat trip. The whole town is great to walk through. Check out the old hotel when there. The front desk actually let us check out some of the vacant rooms. Hit up the historical society so you get the great info...More

Two rooms with some interesting local history. Who knew bottled water was a need in the gold mining times? Bottles were recycled too! There is a historic walking tour map. Ask about the two punishments for breaking the law.

Go to this museum for tourism advice on the weekends. The attendants are very knowledgeable and were excellent storytellers. They got us excited about the area and helped us plan the rest of our day.

Find out what Placer mining is and learn about how the gold rush affected this area. Don't bother with the walking tour of Main Street. I'd rather look around inside the museum, because Main Street isn't anywhere near as interesting as this building.

This is a very small museum with some interesting collections from local residents. There is a brochure of historical buildings that is offered, as well, if one is interested in walking through the town.
