Pigeon Point Lighthouse is a really great place for photos. Lots of great sunsets and many times of the year when the iceplant is blooming making for beautiful shots. I stopped here on Thanksgiving evening on my way home from Santa Cruz to Walnut Creek and was very pleased with the sunset. Finding the right perspective can be challenging, so... More

My girlfriend and I would up here completely be accident. We actually were going to stay at another place, but after driving for three hours we never found it and needed a place to sleep. We originally went to the light house to use the restroom and Wi-Fi and then found out there was a hostel there as well. The... More

So many commercials have been filmed here and now it is a hostel popular with backpackers and overnight school field trips. I loved the white fence and the flowers and the historic lighthouse structures. This is also a great place to observe and learn about seals and sea lions. Check tour times as it was closed when I visited.

A very nice place and lots of perspectives to play with. Morning light may be the best, this is not to say that it isn't beautiful later in the day.

We were very lucky in that our tour was led by the Park Services employee that runs the docent program at this site. She is retiring and this was likely her last tour. The 45 min tour was very well done with lots of historical facts and flavor. Be sure to bring extra layers for the outside portion of the... More

Stopped here on our way down the coast. The lighthouse isn't open to climb but there is a gift shop and a few buildings with information in them. The lens was dismantled and then put together again in one of those buildings and with it being a first order lends it is an amazing sight to see close up. Outside... More

Driving north along CA-1, my husband spotted this lighthouse in the distance. We decided to swing in and weren't disappointed! There was a wonderful volunteer on duty that explained to us the history of the lighthouse, it's workings, shipwrecks in the area and the current efforts being made to restore this historical beauty. The grounds were well-tended but not fancy.... More

Despite blustery winds, the lighthouse must be a guide to the boats and ships far out at sea...am not sure if it is still functional...

Just up the road from Santa Cruz, Pigeon Point is a wonderful lighthouse to photograph especially on cloudy days! I used a ND 10 filter to render the ocean near motionless, and was able to capture some serene views of the surf. I could only imaging how the images would look on a clear day. Be careful using a tripod... More
