We were drove on the CA-1 (Cabrillo Hwy) heading north to San Francisco. It is not so easy to miss the Pigeon Point Lighthouse because you can see it when you are approaching it. It is located 44.7 km (27.8mi) north of Santa Cruz and one of the most easy access lighthouses on our visit along the coast highway. The... More

I love the sound lighthouses make -- that long, eerie whistle that warns passing ships of imminent danger. The Pigeon Point Light Station State Historic Park celebrates that tradtion. About 50 miles south of San Francisco, the nearly 150-year-old light station claims to be one of the tallest lighthouses in the U.S. It is closed to visitors -- the host... More

On 12/20/15, I was driving by on a road trip and took the time to stop and see what the lighthouse was all about. It's interesting and there are free guides who explain everything. It's a nice photo op. Pigeon Point is in need of funds to restore the old lighthouse.

This was a well worth stop on the way to San Francisco! Sadly the lighthouse itself is closed and is in dire need of major repairs. But there is information everywhere and beautiful views all around. There is a mini museum free of charge with the first beacon that was installed in 1872. I definitely donated and hope one day... More

The views are spectacular and always available, but the lighthouse is closed indefinitely for restoration. While the outside of the lighthouse can be seen from the grounds the real gem is the First Order Fresnel lens, which is now housed in the fog signal building. Make sure you go on a Thursday - Monday when volunteer docents are present and... More

Worth the visit. Lots of info posted around. Hostel looks interesting if that's what you need. Would like to have seen the lens from the lighthouse but that little building was closed.

The small trails and museums are great. But what is incredible are the views including overlooking bluffs and an incredible lighthouse. Very much worth the short trip from either the bay area or any where from Pacifica to Santa Cruz.

Perfect place to watch whales and other marine mammals and birds, and you may see some great white sharks as well. If you stay at the hostel, you may use the hot tub overlooking the ocean - who could ask for anything more?

Beautiful setting, very accessible, easy parking and so picturesque. This is a don't miss and don't forget your camera. Totally unexpected to have such a remarkable world class lighthouse so close to the Bay Area population centers.
