Birds love this area. One of the best places to see them is at Bird Rock Vista Point on 17 mile drive in Carmel. Although the parking area was closed (due to covid), we still liked seeing them as we drove to lunch at Roy's.

The Bird Rock is the 7th point to stop and view while moving on 17-miles Drive. Brown Pelicans, Brandt’s Cormorants, Western Gulls, Sea Lions comes and go from here as per their mating seasons. Seals and Sea Otters stay here the full year. These will be visible with powerful lens only as they stay on a rock in sea with some distance.
As written there, Bird Rock was covered in 4 to 5 feet of Pelican and Cormorant guano until 1930, when it was harvested as a fertilizer. Sea Lions takes advantage of the cleaned-off perch, and have been sun-bathing here ever since.
This is the place with good sea views and one can walk long along the sea. Parking and Toilets are there for visitors.

This Vista Point is awesome for it’s natural surroundings and for viewing the native birds in their natural habitat. Certainly worth visiting, when in Pebble Beach.

There are a lot of birds out there -- but charging for the telescopes - really???? They make enough money during the day and it would be nice if people could just use them to get the best view of the birds and sea lions.

Along the 17 Mile Driv, the scenic road that goes from Pacific Grove to Pebble Beach has several observation points to stop to admire the scenery. The bird rock view point is at the end of the 17 mile Driv. From here you can see many birds on the rocks and the islet in front. The sea with the cliff is beautiful and definitely worth the wait for a while here

There is parking here just turn off 17 Mile Drive at about the half way point. There is a short hike to the edge. On a warm sunny fall day we saw tons of birds, both flying and standing on the various rocks. There were seals sleeping in the sun. Other people said there were Sea otters playing in the water a few minutes before we got there. This is a must see stop on 17 mile drive and has restrooms and a picnic spot.

We came from Pacific grove, via the very fine 17-Mile Drive with many wonderful viewpoints on Pacific coastline.
We hiked the beautiful Bird Rock Trail (0.62 mile), allowing us to see many endemic plants and flowers as well as many birds! We weer also lucky to see a beautiful squirrel!
It’s also a fine area for picnics!
