We were drawn to visit Four Lanterns Vineyard and Winery by the recommendations of several hoteliers and restauranteurs in Paso Robles where we had traveled for a wedding, and then discovered a shared Dartmouth College connection with owner and winemaker Steve Gleason. Founded in 2013 by Steve and his wife Jackie, named "Four Lanterns" in homage to their four daughters, the winery is a very short drive from downtown Paso Robles and very easily accessible by Uber.

We were very warmly welcomed by Steve and Jackie, who graciously introduced us to their winery and exceptional wines, their passion for winemaking evident from the start. Their wonderful renovated barn anchors the tasting facilities, opening onto a porch and broad lawn with beautiful views of the surrounding vineyards, where they also have summer Sunday events with music and dancing as well as food trucks.

The tasting journey was tremendous, their wines having earned prestigious accolades from Wine Enthusiast and awards from vintner competitions, as well as consistently affirmative reviews such as by Cellar Tracker. We sampled an impressive selection, starting with the sparkling Viognier "Jacqueline" titled in tribute to the lady of the winery. The 2018 "Shadow" Grenache-Syrah blend and the 2018 “Firelight” Syrah were among our favorites, as was their 2018 “Kharis” Bordeaux blend.

Steve also led us on a marvelous tour of their winery, giving us a wonderful insider’s view into the art and the science of their winemaking, including the privilege of barrel tasting which deepened our appreciation for the craftsmanship behind Four Lanterns' wines.

Our visit to Four Lanterns Winery was truly spectacular. The Gleason family's dedication to producing sensational wines, coupled with their fabulous hospitality and beautiful venue, combined for an absolutely phenomenal experience which we very highly recommend.

Stopped here on a whim, rated well on Google so why not? What a treat! Awesome outdoor seating, well spaced and well thought out, comfy selection of tables and Adirondack chairs. Selection of wines was solid, they specialize in Rhone style wines. The wines were decent, had a mix of good and could-be-better wines. What made this place exceptional was the customer service. It was nice meeting the wine maker and owner and hearing his story. Special shout out to Molly who took control, poured us an amazing tasting, and made the visit special. If you go, ask for Molly. Will be back!

The Gleason family has been nothing but nice to me, wonderful wines, wonderful experiences. My personal favorite is their Picpoul Blanc which is not heavily populated in the area. If you want a gracious small family owned winery who are blessed with talent and intellect come here.

We came by without an appt. It seems a lot of the wineries are stuck with this model. When we arrived no one was serving any customers. There was a female employee eating and when we arrived I let her know we didn't have an appt. She said she'd check to see if they had any one available to serve us. We had to sit at a table outside. We were still the only ones there. They finally assigned us a server. Right away we noticed the wines were expensive. We were served mostly red wines and the Petite Syrah (I believe) was my favorite. They also had a high tasting fee which you had to buy 2 or 3 bottles to get one tasting fee waived. It really wasn't a good deal but we finished the tasting and bought 3 bottles. I didn't see how they made money but maybe it's me. Either way I'm going to pass next time I'm in this area.

We had an excellent time at Four Lanterns Winery on 10/9. We tasted reds and every wine was delicious. The winery grounds are lovely and everyone working there was knowledgeable and very inviting. You have lots of winery choices on Paso Robles and we highly recommend this small, family owned winery. Steve and Jackie are perfect ghosts and attend to every detail at the winery.

Warm, welcoming, wonderful! We were celebrating our son’s birthday and had a few wineries lined up for the day. This was our first, and best tasting experience! Very knowledgeable, owners are down to earth and grow excellent varieties. Kid friendly, dog friendly, they have a lovely golden retriever that will lay his head on your lap. Very recommended.

A very friendly family-run winery, making excellent Rhone-style wines, perfect for a warm day sitting in the shaded of the trees. The owners are very friendly as is their dog, apparently, they do have live music but we were not fortunate enough to hear any. They also serve a very memorable Cabernet Franc, but all the wines we tasted were very good, and we look forward to returning with friends.
TIP: Amazing place to bring your children, plenty of space for them to explore.

Beautiful place to sit under the trees and taste.
Molly was our awesome wine guide and we had a great chat with owner/ winemaker Steve while petting Brix, the golden.
Most important: excellent wine! So excellent that we joined the wine club.
We also reserved an overnight space through Harvest Host and parked our van out back overnight. Just us and a great horned owl.
Highly recommend. Looking forward to coming back soon.

Enjoyed the location, atmosphere, people, wines and winery dog - Brix, the Golden Retriever. Prices are competitive, although like most places in Paso area not inexpensive. Nice grounds for outdoor seating and tasting. Pet friendly - a must. Interesting collection of wines. We got lucky on our visit as there was live music too! Worth a visit. Oh and the owner was there and made a point of coming around to every table to chat. A nice personal touch.

Staff (Rita?) was super friendly and helpful. Made us feel so incredibly welcomed. We had blankets and sat near a fire pit outside. Enjoying a lovely day and the winery dog Brix was an added bonus!!
