About
Since 1917, the historical San Antonio Winery has been the heart of wine making and wine culture in Los Angeles. It is the last producing winery in Los Angeles and continues to hand craft wines from estate vineyards in Napa Valley, Monterey, Paso Robles, and many viticultural areas throughout California. As the last of more than 100 wineries which once spread throughout Los Angeles, San Antonio produces countless award winning wines and is one of the last wineries owned and operated for four generations by the family who founded it.The Riboli Family traces its wine producing roots to Lombardia, Italy, where founder Santo Cambianica learned to make simple table wines for his family and friends. Once he immigrated to the US, Santo established himself and his new winery in Lincoln Heights, which at that time was the home to many first-generation Italian immigrants. With hard work, determination, and good faith, Santo’s business survived the Prohibition Act by producing sacramental wines for churches and local parishes of Los Angeles County. Nearly every winery in Los Angeles failed during that time, resulting in an explosion of fresh opportunity for Santo. As the wine industry of California moved from Southern to Central and Northern California in the mid 1900’s, Santo and his nephew Stefano Riboli had no intention of leaving their new home in LA. Without this decision, an integral part of LA’s cultural renaissance would have been lost. While Santo and Stefano lived and developed their business in Los Angeles, they kept their focus on the burgeoning wine regions in the North and over time acquired vineyard properties in some of the most prestigious areas. This relationship between growing in the North and producing in the South is a true source of pride for the Winery and the Riboli Family.

Last time we were in Paso (Pre- pandemic) and had lunch with these friends, we also had lunch here, and it was decidedly better. I chalk it up to a restaurant struggling to get back to normal, so we will definitely return at a later date. My friend ordered the Wagyu Tri-tip sandwich and I ordered the Meatball Sandwich, and we shared one half of each. Meatball was too bland with little taste; more seasoning would help. Tri-tip didn’t taste like a Wagyu, and really didn’t overwhelm us since there was nothing extra in sandwich to enhance its flavor. We shared a 2018 Cab with the ladies which was very good as they enjoyed there Margarita and Roasted Veggie Pizzas.

I frequent Paso Robles from time to time and I happened to be driving by the winery on Memorial Day this year and noticed that the ensign (American flag) was not at half mast as it is supposed to be. I called the winery at 12:55 pm and the I politely told the female on the phone that I was a Veteran and noticed that the ensign was not correct and she said "I know you called earlier, ugh, bye!" and hung up on me. I did not call earlier and in fact this was the first time I ever called the winery. Ultimately I think she in not the right person for the job, and I hope the facility and wine are better than their customer service.

Hello Tommy,
I am the person the Yelp review was written about. If I confused that gentleman with someone who had called earlier, I do apologize. My father is retired military, a decorated veteran of World War II and a veteran of the Korean War. My brother is retired military, a veteran of the Gulf War. I would not speak disrespectfully to a veteran.
My exact thought was "Acknowledge the call, get off the phone and go fix the problem," which is exactly what I did. My EXACT WORDS were "Yes, you've called before, thank you, good-bye." Given my family history, there is absolutely no way I would say "Ugh" or express any disgust or disrespect to a veteran.
Best regards,
Elise

We just left the winery during our annual weekend jaunt to attend the Eberle Black Tie dinner. Our server for our tasting, Wesley, was wonderful. But as we checked out and paid for our purchases, we couldn’t help but notice a very unfriendly blonde woman hovering who appeared ho be a manager. Acted like we were shoplifting or something. Emitted a very negative vibe and made us feel very unwelcome.

Pros: Good quality of wine for the $, nice tasting room
Cons: Just a tasting room. Actual winery and vineyards are somewhere else. I suspect can get crowded with large groups.
I've been to the San Antonio tasting room in LA as well as in Paso Robles before. In Paso Robles the San Antonio facility is a tasting room located strategically at the very start of East 46. Be aware it's just a tasting room, there are no vineyards nearby connected to them.
The tasting bar is nice and there is ample room, although I could see this place being super busy on weekends. Because it's a reasonably priced place I suspect it's a popular group stop. The selection of wines is fairly large with different price points, labels, and terroirs represented. You have a choice of different tasting flights and price points. There used to be a free option, but now they have a token $5 option. TIP- Use the Winery Geek app or just mention the ad and you can get the basic tasting as a freebie.
The bottle prices for most wines seem reasonable (in the $15 to $25 range). The quality of wines ranges from OK to pretty good. I usually find something I like and will purchase a bottle or two to take home. This trip we got a bottle of Paso Merlot and a Paso Chardonnay on the San Simeon label. Both solid bottles for the cost.
Since our prior visit they have now added a bistro. The food is decent and the prices again are reasonable. You order at the counter, grab your drink and take a seat on the veranda. I got a Tri-tip sandwich that was pretty good. Truth be told I think the Tri-tip sandwich at the golf course a few miles up 46 East is better, but San Antonio is nice and convenient.
San Antonio is definitely worth a stop

We have visited Paso for the past 20 years or so, and San Antonio was not here the last time we visited. We understand it is relatively new, and the main reason they are in Paso is because that is where they purchase their grapes.
The grounds are excellent, like most upper end wineries, and the staff is helpful and attentive. However, the below average quality of the wines does not warrant another visit.

This winery represents 3 different wineries. Their pricing for tasting is very reasonable and the wines are excellent. They have special pricing if purchasing more than one bottle. I especially liked there Opaque wine and the San Simeon Syrah wine. They also have an excellent lunch menu and a gift shop with hand crafted items. I enjoyed eating lunch by their fireplace and enjoying the wine tasting.

We stopped in to the San Antonio winery bistro restaurant. We had a fresh bruschetta appetizer plate it was delicious.
Also had the wagyu beef try tip sandwich with grilled onions horseradish with mozzarella cheese on a toasted Shibata roll it was one of the best try tip sandwiches I think I’ve ever had.
If you’re in Paso Robles don’t miss this place.
