About
Emphasizing the diversity of each of our estate vineyards is the core of the Derby Wine Estates mission. Our three vineyards are in northern San Luis Obispo County (East Paso Robles, West Paso Robles and San Simeon Coast) and highlight three very distinct geographical regions. We are committed to showcasing these viticultural extremes under the Derby Wine Estates label. Visit our tasting room everyday for tastings and tours from 11am-5pm, 6pm in the summers. Reserve tastings, by appointment on weekends.

My wife and I have always loved the building that is now the site of Derby Wine Estates. Some 20 years ago, when the building was vacant, we fantasized about buying it and converting it into a brewery. Given that thought, we were delighted to see the building reborn as Derby Wine Estates.

Even though Derby had been there for 10 years, when we visit Paso we stay at a B&B on the west side so our wine tasting tends to be smaller producers in that direction. On this particular day we had just completed a round of golf in the early afternoon on a Thursday and figured there would not be a lot of people there in this Covid world. We were in luck. There were a few people in the tasting room but our host offered that he could pour for us outside so we took him up on it.

We focused on whites because we learned that Derby owns hundreds of acres, some close to the coast, so we could get away from the red Rhones and zinfandels for which Paso is famous. It turns out, however, that most of that acreage is sold to other wine makers. Derby only produces 3,000 cases or so itself. What they bottle is a variety of wines which makes them unique in the area. Well worth the visit.

We had passed by this Winery several times over the last few years and decided to make a reservation this year and was really happy we did. We had a tasting in their upstairs room which is the highest point in Paso Robles. The tasting was beautiful, fun, and we had some great wine pairing. Our host did a great job telling us about the Winery and wines. It was a great stop we will do again.

We have been wine club members with Derby for years and they never disappoint! Their new tasting room in downtown Paso is phenomenal. They truly have kept the character of the building while offering an extremely classy tasting room. The service of the staff is always fantastic. If visiting the area, this is a must stop for awesome varietals!

We went to Derby winery on the advice of a friend. He definitely didn't steer us wrong! Shirona happened to very friendly person that poured of us wine tastings and she was very knowledgeable and informative about the area and the specific wines made at Derby. She even took of for a quick tour in their brand new location in the old historic almond building that now serves as their tasting room and processing plant.

We love their wine and took a few bottles home for the future. We will definitely be back!!

Good wine and great people! Their tasting room is out a little far on E46, so the owners are restoring a historic building in Paso Robles where they will ll open a 2nd tasting room some time soon,

Hi! Thank you so much for a positive review. We are happy you had a good experience with us! Upon completion of the Almond Grower/Farmers Alliance renovation- we will actually be moving there altogether (winery, tasting room, etc...). Our current location will most likely be converted in to office spaces for our our vineyard operations team. We are very excited about move downtown :) Again, thank you so much for taking time to write a review. We hope to see you back in the TR again real soon!

It is sad right now that these spots are not busy at all. They observed all the regulations during this pandemic. Host came out and explained the wines and waived tasting fee with a bottle purchase. Bring a jacket!

Me and the wife went on a Friday evening while they had music and BBQ. Apparently they stop tastings at 6 but they were nice enough to let us do it anyway. Great wines!! They ran out of BBQ in about 5 min but we were not eating anyway. Great patio with fire pit and good wine. A great time.

This is where it gets down to the nitty gritty: Ask why "Derby" Pinot Noirs are better here than elsewhere and you will get a very thorough, convincing answer. To sum up, when Pinot Noirs became the "It" wine in the early part of the last decade, all wineries began growing Pinot grapes... but at the wrong temperatures. The "Derby" vineyard is properly located off the sea breeze, eliciting perfect temps. Buy a Pinot and buy a Sparkling Rose Champagne. The $10 tasting fee will be waived if you buy. Altogether, this is in my mind, and palate, the essential Paso Roblas winery.
