Sweeping views from this winery! Beautiful inside & out and we liked the fact that this wasn't one of the main, crowded wineries and a bit off the beaten path. Our server, Philly was wonderful...so friendly and entertaining. He definitely made our afternoon memorable & fun!

Loved the little gift shop area...fabulous toffee, candles made in recycled wine bottles, and other goodies. You can order lunch or appetizers to have with your wine tasting and also sit inside or out. If you buy 2 bottle of wine, your tasting fee is waived.

Loved this winery!

This experience at Calcareous was by far the best of the wine tasting we did on our trip. We were wowed by the incredible views as soon as we arrived. The patio is charming and perched atop a garden lawn backyard of the estate. It's a casual yet classy retreat that invites you in immediately to sample their delicious wines. The sommelier was incredibly knowledgeable and willing to visit and share as much as you cared to learn. The wine prices per bottle varied widely as you'd expect, but we were able to get a couple of excellent wines in the $50-60 range. When wine tasting in Paso, I rank this winery as "must do".

I had a very nice time here. The view truly is beautiful and I loved the outdoor seating with umbrella. I also loved the cheese tray which is offered with the wine tastings (for an extra cost). It made for a full experience. The wine was nice but the tasting felt more commercial than other places I visited, less intimate. Not a bad thing just a different vibe. I enjoyed my visit and would go back.

The view was beautiful. Our server was just ok. The person serving the wines can make it fun or boring. It was pretty boring. Wines were just ok. The one I loved cost 100. I decided to buy it for my hubby but our server would not waive even one tasting fee! No extra pours really either! Maybe that one good wine I bought I think.

Calcareous is an interesting experience in the sense of each visit is a surprise. I wish it was always a good surprise, but it wasn't. The good: beautiful outdoor tasting/eating experience with a great view, fairly reliable wine quality. Now. The bad. Your reservation gets you a random table assignment that the staff is not really geared up to adjust. Is it bright sunshine and plenty of empty tables but they assigned you to the one with no umbrella? No problem, you are welcome to sit there and burn... Luckily an empowered person walked by and have permission to the hostess to adjust. You then sir there and watch people that came after get greeted and served before your are acknowledged. I admit that this is mostly probably a function of the hostess we had since others seemed to get plenty of service. We did end up buying wine but largely because of what we had before, not what we were shown.

For a lunch stop, their views and searing are great. They have a new chef that is, reportedly, developing a new menu so once that is done it may be a really good experience. For now, it is great views, a BLT, a huge charcuterie and cheese plate but not what it could be.

Advice: better than nothing but if you are looking for food, wait for them to figure out their menu. If you aren't looking for food, try one of the many other tasting experiences, at least till they get the bugs ironed out.

I have been to Paso several times to taste but always got stuck on the East side somehow. I saw an Instagram post of a picnic on a blanket with mountains behind the people at Calcareous and knew I wanted to see the view. I was amazed at the beauty and jaw dropping views at this winery in person. All of the wine was excellent but I was head over heals for the Moose and the Cabernet . We ordered lasagna and a chicken caeser salad which both were SOOOOO good, and came with wine! The Chef even brought us 2 chocolate strawberries and said hi to our dog outside while she was making the rounds and saying hi to all the people outside. I felt really special and I will definitely be back for the food again. Thanks Chef Destiny and Bob for helping us at the best winery in California. Emily and Aaron

Our first winery of the day, and what a way to start. They have a beautiful outdoor tasting area set up with great views of the vineyards. Very efficient and friendly. Got us checked in and seated quickly then poured us some wonderful wine at a very relaxed pace. Helpful, informative and attentive. Bought some of their excellent wine and would love to go back again.

Because of COVID it had been several years since we had visited Calcareous. In fact we hadn't planned to visit it this time but the opportunity opened up and we took it.

Overall, we were favorably pleased. The wines were better. The servers were better. And the winery had little "pressure" on it from the hoards of people we had seen there in past visits.

We thought all of the wines were very good. But the "Moose" wine was exceptional, a red unlike any other. Hard to describe but very good. We bought it.

We have thoroughly enjoyed Calcareous wines as members since our first visit years ago. We visited again with our daughter this time. Wee have been sharing our Calcareous wines and stories of the beauty of the winery with her for the 8 years she was living out of state. Needless to say, no disappointments here!!! The personal attention, delicious cheese plate and fun gifts in the shop made for a memorable time.

Just put it on your list. Winding road to get to the top with amazing views and great wines. Wine club offers great deals, too. The lovely grassy area outside was set up with shaded, COVID-distanced tables. The staff very knowledgeable and fun as well. Snacks didn’t disappoint. That’s what I remember- it was the last place of our winery tour so pretty lit by the time we got there, and Calcareous was worthy of being the final destination.
