Extremely condescending owner, who was insulting and made the experience very uncomfortable. Have visited hundreds of vineyards and cannot give a higher level of caution with Kevin and Kukkula. Would advise against them strongly
PS: It's difficult to write a poor review, especially with something I like so much as wine, but felt other consumers should be informed

Worst winery visit ever. We booked a reserve tasting for $35 each without reading the details, and it turned out that the cost of the tasting was in addition to a mandatory purchase of two bottles of wine each! Those of you who visit wineries will know that the tasting fee is usually waived with a wine purchase, and that wine purchases are never mandatory. Plus, while we tasted five wines, only two were available for purchase w/o a wine club membership. While our host was amiable, our visit was also supposed to be done with the winemaker or his assistant, and neither of them was there. We have been to dozens of wineries in Paso and this was absolutely the biggest rip-off ever.

My mom and I loved it here. We arrived and there was a large party at the bar however we were greeted immediately. Kevin’s wife seated us and was extremely friendly and attentive.
The tasting room had a very warm and comfortable vibe.
The wines were delicious and affordable.
I will definitely be back.

Kukkula means "the hill, or high place" in Finnish, the winemaker's first language. Here you will find gorgeous modern architecture, extraordinary views, and a friendly staff. Pas de Deux, Noir, and Aatto are my favorites, but every wine they make is good. Don't miss this wonderful winery on your next visit to Paso Robles wine country.

I'm not sure who recommended Kukkula to us - possibly our "local" California Wine and Cheese shop in Monrovia, CA.
Regardless, we finally got around to it last month. Kukkula means high hill in Finnish, the heritage of the owner. 29 acres of vines, 8 acres of olives, 34 acres of mature walnut trees surround a gorgeous building and the owner's home. The clay and limestone soils give the wines the minerally taste I prefer. And the west side climate is perfect for Rhone blends.
I really liked the Vaalea - 43% Viognier, 29% Roussanne, and 28% Grenache Blanc, and I am not a white wine lover. In facgt we bought a bottle to take down to Morro Bay for dinner that night. $22
2006 i.p.o. (short for Initial Public Offering), Cabernet, Syrah, Zinfandel $24
2007 in the red - Cabernet Sauvignon/Syrah $30.00
(both names refer to the winery finances) ;-)
The estate blends were ok to good, but not worth the $40-$45 bottle price - that's a bit over my limit unless the wines knock my socks off.Good but my socks stayed on.
Wonderful staff, owner came in out of the the fields, in his overalls, and greeted some wine club members. I wish them luck!!
There are tables inside and nice salads and other offerings to purchase in the tasting room. Not every winery has food, and that is a bonus! Also not crowded, another bonus.
It's near Starr Ranch - nearly across the street, making it a good choice to do two wineries near each other. The property is fabulous!

This was our first visit to the winery and we will go back. Very good wines and a great story of success for the owners. Setting is spectacular, off the regular tourist route but worth the extra drive. Very comfortable tasting room with no big "sell" on their product or their wine club. Although I'm asked what sort of visit this was on the review, it was not teens (I marked Family (teens)), it was with our adult children. There were no other logical choices.

Has potential but I am not ready to fall in love !... Very small production, only 3-4 red varieties that we could taste in the tasting room which was under construction and being renovated. IPO (Wine maker is a Wall St. guy hence the name) was good, others had quirky names ... It was a bit disappointing that they would not sell us one of the "Club membership wines" unless we signed up for wine club. We will keep this on a watch but as I said, it looks like a "work-in-progress" winery and may implode under its own self-imposed rules of avoiding selling of wines that people want to buy.

We had never heard of this winery and had a bottle of their Noir at Bistro Laurent (where we first discovered Clavo in 2014. So we made the trek up to the tasting room. Unfortunately you have to be a member to buy it there.
