Nice winery but definitely more commercial than other boutique Paso wineries
I did not know anything about Opolo until their 2017 Sangiovese got number 1 out of 5 in a horizontal tasting among friends at my house four weeks ago. It beat out Eberle and three Italian bottles (who should know how to grow Sangiovese). Since we were going to Paso Robles it was natural to go here. They have a large covered but open area for tastings outside their tasting room. They also sell very expensive pizza and other finger food from a kitchen. Our server Steve was very knowledgeable but seemed to be covering a lot of tables, so our tasting took the full 90+ minutes and we were almost late for our next tasting. The area around it is beautiful although you don't get a view from the tasting area--it's actually better from the parking lot up above. I did end up buying their 2020 Albariño and 2019 Montagna Mare, which waived the $20 tasting fee.

    A Stellar Experience
My wife and I just returned from spending three nights at the Inn at Opolo. Our experience was so positive that we made reservations for a repeat stay in August after the first night. The Inn has only three suites, and they are very well appointed and comfortable. The setting was beautiful and quiet. The Inn’s location on the winery property affords the opportunity for hikes, bocci ball, sunning on the deck, or just relaxing in your suite. The service level for Inn guests is at the 5 Star level in all respects. A charcuterie plate is provided each evening along with a bottle of Opolo wine. Made to order breakfast is provided each morning. In addition to your choice of main dishes ranging from Eggs Benedict, to pancakes, to steel cut oats, you are also served a fresh fruit cup topped with whipped cream, and Mimosas or just plain orange juice. Your choice of teas and coffees are available at all times, along with bottled water, Coca Cola, Sprite and bottle of sparkling water. I can not write a review of the Inn without a special shout out to the wonderful staff who prepare and serve food and wine to Inn guests, provide housekeeping service, and are exceptional in every way. I challenge anyone to find better service at any other resort. The Inn is a short walk from the Opolo Winery tasting room, which also includes a small restaurant service pizza, charcuterie plates, and other delicious fare. Of course, you will not want to pass up the opportunity to sample the wide array of wines produced by Opolo. Our favorites continue to be the Mountain Zinfandel they are renowned for, but we also enjoyed for the first time their blanc de blanc sparkling wine, and the Albariño. Although the restaurant and tasting room appeared to be short handed, and they were actively recruiting additional staff, those on duty the two time we were there were efficient, attentive and friendly.

    Mountain Zin
Opolo has one of my favorite zinfandels I have ever tasted. I ordered 2 bottles of their Mountain Zinfandel due to the black Friday sale they had going on. I knew I would be back again visiting in Paso Robles soon and had to snag a couple of bottles because they can no longer ship to my state. Great prompt service again. When I have more time, I will definitely check out their distillery and do a tasting. Last time I was at Opolo the distillery tasting room did not exist.

We are from Canada and visited this winery last year and loved it. Both the experience and wines were amazing so we decided to visit it again this year too. Wines and “tri kobasice” were still amazing but the experience was ruined by our hostess Chiney who neglected us and showed no interest. We ordered wine tasting along with our “tri kobasica” and waited for ever for each subsequent pour. She would disappear after every pour and we could now find her on the patio. Then she would show up, recite what she had to say and disappear behind “tasting room doors”. I went into the “tasting room” and she was not there either. We could not call her. At the end she just said here is the form if you want to purchase any wines and disappeared again but this time she did not return. We waited thinking she would talk to us what we would like to purchase and help us out in making the decision but we were out of luck. Luckily we knew where to go to pay from last year and we asked another hostess to help us out with purchasing the wines.

I had an incredibly disappointing experience here as a part of a group tasting. Right off the bat, the server forgot my table with the first pour. We waited patiently and it wasn’t until the other tables began to get their second pour did we mention it. She poured me the bottoms of not one but TWO bottles, a pour that didn’t even equate 2oz. Because of this delay, the server continually forgot/overlooked us as she assumed we were caught up with the group. When we mentioned we never received our 4th tasting (as part of the menu) she actually accused us of lying! She stated firmly “she gave it to us” when she hadn’t, she was pouring seconds for the other tables! I attached a photo of the minuscule pours - when I asked why they were so small, she said “well this is JUST a tasting.” I’ve been to wineries in Spain, Chile, France, Niagara and NEVER have been poured so little or treated so poorly!

We were driving from Santa Barbara and saw their billboard and decided to call about stopping for lunch. Over the phone they said they don't take reservations for lunch but that we should come by. I specifically gave them the time we'd be there to double check feasibility and she again said, no problem, might be a 5-10 wait but that's as bad as it will get. So we went 45 min out of our way to visit, we get there, the woman at the front tells us that members are actually able to make reservations so they're all booked up actually. When I told her what I was told when I called she just shrugged and said sometimes they mislead people over the phone. Wow.

I've spent a ton of time in Paso and always hesitated to visit Opolo because it looked touristy . And now that I can confirm poor customer service. Don't visit here when there are SO many friendly wineries nearby that would love your business and treat you with respect.

Walk-ins welcome? Not really! We went with the intention to buy wine and become members and had a hideous experience.

Pours were barely enough to wet the bottom of the glass. We were mostly ignored. Asked for water and got 1/3 cup tap water.

Server (Rachel) was opinionated and condescending. My boyfriend said it was the first time he's left a winery angry. We were made to feel inferior because we were "walk-ins" and told we had to have our tasting standing up at the counter inside. We weren't allowed to sit outside. (Seriously?) Forget about feeling comfortable and enjoying the experience. Taste, pay, and get out. Not sure how they get anyone to join.

We were told a purchase would waive the tasting fee. Said I'd buy 2 bottles but told I had to buy 3 bottles to waive one tasting. LOL. Not paying $40 for 2 tastings and full price for 2 bottles. Cash me out and we'll join another winery. Won't EVER support Opolo again! This was our rock bottom wine tasting experience.

Our favorite winery experience in Paso Robles. From the drive through the vineyards to the final sip of Mountain Zin, the Opolo experience is the best.

We tried three flights this day: White, red and reserve. All had wins that were very good to excellent. The best of all 14 wines we tried was the Mountain Zinfandel, which is the wine that put Opolo on the map. It’s still an outstanding wine.

All 3 pizzas we had were great (disagreement over which is better: 3 little pigs or brussel sprouts and bacon) and the caprese salads were tasty and refreshing.

Added bonus: the Willow Creek Distillery is adjacent to the Opolo patio. Great place to try a flight of 4 dessert liquors after loading up on pizza and Zin.

A very nice winery with wonderful views.
We had a delicious lunch before our wine tasting appointment. We sat outside on the covered patio with heat lamps, it was a little chilly, but we warmed up. No food is allowed in the tasting room.
My husband & I shared a Margherita Pizza with fresh tomatoes, basil, mozzarella & parmesan. It was very tasty. A perfect size for a light lunch & the crust was thin. The pizzas are 11 inches with 8 slices. Our lunch also included a glass of wine, but sharing meant only one glass so my husband bought his. We both had the Opolo Sparkling wine, very good with pizza. Besides pizzas, they also offer cheese platters, sausages & salads.
After lunch, we went in the tasting room & tasted some wines. They have a wonderful selection of wines at reasonable prices.
We look forward to returning.

Just poor wines, not even mediocre or ok. Overpriced, sales pressure from the staff and the owners were flat out rude. We've been tasting in the Paso area for 12 years and this was the worst experience yet. Dont bother, there are so many other fabulous places to try.

Great from start to finish. We visited during a trip to Paso that included 9 wineries over 3.5 days. This was the best overall. The pizza, service and setting are great. The wine was very good, but not the best we had on the trip. We did buy some 2 bottles plus a couple of sparking wines while we were here.

I had tasted their wines before and was excited to visit the winery. We had reservations for 11 a.m. and we were about 15 minutes early. They were able to seat us right way and that is a HUGE plus considering it wasn't busy. The winery is beautiful. They have a large covered patio with tables for tasting and a small outdoor seating with umbrellas. They also have a distillery on site. You can order food, but it comes with wine because that's the way they can sell food "food and wine pairing". They have a brick oven to cook the pizza and at first our pizza was under cooked. We asked for them to "throw it back in the oven" and we got a fresh new pizza that was perfectly cooked. All the wines we tasted were good and we ended up buying 3 bottles. Our tasting/lunch lasted an hour, but we didn't feel rushed to leave. Our server was very pleasant. We are definitely happy that we came.

We went after it had just opened from the Covid shutdown. No tastings. You could order a glass and something to eat was required. Limited offerings. Pizza wasn't that great. Large outdoor space, but the place doesn't have much atmosphere. Wine is fine but compared with other offerings in the area not really worth the trip.
