- ataraxisKalamazoo, Michigan192 contributionsMountain ZinOpolo has one of my favorite zinfandels I have ever tasted. I ordered 2 bottles of their Mountain Zinfandel due to the black Friday sale they had going on. I knew I would be back again visiting in Paso Robles soon and had to snag a couple of bottles because they can no longer ship to my state. Great prompt service again. When I have more time, I will definitely check out their distillery and do a tasting. Last time I was at Opolo the distillery tasting room did not exist.Visited December 2022Written December 26, 2022
- Steven MWalnut Creek, California58 contributionsGreat place for a drive through the country to taste wine with a pizza and saladOn the way to Paso Robles from Cambria we took a drive through beautiful country vineyards on a small road to Opolo on a recommendation that it was a great place to try Zinfandel wines. As it was early afternoon we were delighted that we could also order a pizza and salad with our wine tasting with table service. We even were serve a delicious port after lunch. The facility also has a distillery if one’s tastes run in that direction, which we try next time we go.Visited May 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten May 28, 2023
- Sandra LSacramento, California51 contributionsA MUST visit! This was our fourth time visiting this winery and it just keeps getting better! The friendly and knowledgeable staff sets this winery apart. Our wine tasting was with Ryan and he made it extremely enjoyable. He also suggested a vegan cheese store in the area that I would have never found otherwise! The food is amazing so plan on having a delicious meal in gorgeous surroundings. We also did a tasting at the distillery room and came home with several bottles from there as well. If you only have time for one winery, make this it!Visited June 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten June 29, 2023

We were driving from Santa Barbara and saw their billboard and decided to call about stopping for lunch. Over the phone they said they don't take reservations for lunch but that we should come by. I specifically gave them the time we'd be there to double check feasibility and she again said, no problem, might be a 5-10 wait but that's as bad as it will get. So we went 45 min out of our way to visit, we get there, the woman at the front tells us that members are actually able to make reservations so they're all booked up actually. When I told her what I was told when I called she just shrugged and said sometimes they mislead people over the phone. Wow.
I've spent a ton of time in Paso and always hesitated to visit Opolo because it looked touristy . And now that I can confirm poor customer service. Don't visit here when there are SO many friendly wineries nearby that would love your business and treat you with respect.

We are from Canada and visited this winery last year and loved it. Both the experience and wines were amazing so we decided to visit it again this year too. Wines and “tri kobasice” were still amazing but the experience was ruined by our hostess Chiney who neglected us and showed no interest. We ordered wine tasting along with our “tri kobasica” and waited for ever for each subsequent pour. She would disappear after every pour and we could now find her on the patio. Then she would show up, recite what she had to say and disappear behind “tasting room doors”. I went into the “tasting room” and she was not there either. We could not call her. At the end she just said here is the form if you want to purchase any wines and disappeared again but this time she did not return. We waited thinking she would talk to us what we would like to purchase and help us out in making the decision but we were out of luck. Luckily we knew where to go to pay from last year and we asked another hostess to help us out with purchasing the wines.

Walk-ins welcome? Not really! We went with the intention to buy wine and become members and had a hideous experience.
Pours were barely enough to wet the bottom of the glass. We were mostly ignored. Asked for water and got 1/3 cup tap water.
Server (Rachel) was opinionated and condescending. My boyfriend said it was the first time he's left a winery angry. We were made to feel inferior because we were "walk-ins" and told we had to have our tasting standing up at the counter inside. We weren't allowed to sit outside. (Seriously?) Forget about feeling comfortable and enjoying the experience. Taste, pay, and get out. Not sure how they get anyone to join.
We were told a purchase would waive the tasting fee. Said I'd buy 2 bottles but told I had to buy 3 bottles to waive one tasting. LOL. Not paying $40 for 2 tastings and full price for 2 bottles. Cash me out and we'll join another winery. Won't EVER support Opolo again! This was our rock bottom wine tasting experience.

I had an incredibly disappointing experience here as a part of a group tasting. Right off the bat, the server forgot my table with the first pour. We waited patiently and it wasn’t until the other tables began to get their second pour did we mention it. She poured me the bottoms of not one but TWO bottles, a pour that didn’t even equate 2oz. Because of this delay, the server continually forgot/overlooked us as she assumed we were caught up with the group. When we mentioned we never received our 4th tasting (as part of the menu) she actually accused us of lying! She stated firmly “she gave it to us” when she hadn’t, she was pouring seconds for the other tables! I attached a photo of the minuscule pours - when I asked why they were so small, she said “well this is JUST a tasting.” I’ve been to wineries in Spain, Chile, France, Niagara and NEVER have been poured so little or treated so poorly!

Just poor wines, not even mediocre or ok. Overpriced, sales pressure from the staff and the owners were flat out rude. We've been tasting in the Paso area for 12 years and this was the worst experience yet. Dont bother, there are so many other fabulous places to try.

A very nice winery with wonderful views.
We had a delicious lunch before our wine tasting appointment. We sat outside on the covered patio with heat lamps, it was a little chilly, but we warmed up. No food is allowed in the tasting room.
My husband & I shared a Margherita Pizza with fresh tomatoes, basil, mozzarella & parmesan. It was very tasty. A perfect size for a light lunch & the crust was thin. The pizzas are 11 inches with 8 slices. Our lunch also included a glass of wine, but sharing meant only one glass so my husband bought his. We both had the Opolo Sparkling wine, very good with pizza. Besides pizzas, they also offer cheese platters, sausages & salads.
After lunch, we went in the tasting room & tasted some wines. They have a wonderful selection of wines at reasonable prices.
We look forward to returning.

We went after it had just opened from the Covid shutdown. No tastings. You could order a glass and something to eat was required. Limited offerings. Pizza wasn't that great. Large outdoor space, but the place doesn't have much atmosphere. Wine is fine but compared with other offerings in the area not really worth the trip.

Great from start to finish. We visited during a trip to Paso that included 9 wineries over 3.5 days. This was the best overall. The pizza, service and setting are great. The wine was very good, but not the best we had on the trip. We did buy some 2 bottles plus a couple of sparking wines while we were here.

I had tasted their wines before and was excited to visit the winery. We had reservations for 11 a.m. and we were about 15 minutes early. They were able to seat us right way and that is a HUGE plus considering it wasn't busy. The winery is beautiful. They have a large covered patio with tables for tasting and a small outdoor seating with umbrellas. They also have a distillery on site. You can order food, but it comes with wine because that's the way they can sell food "food and wine pairing". They have a brick oven to cook the pizza and at first our pizza was under cooked. We asked for them to "throw it back in the oven" and we got a fresh new pizza that was perfectly cooked. All the wines we tasted were good and we ended up buying 3 bottles. Our tasting/lunch lasted an hour, but we didn't feel rushed to leave. Our server was very pleasant. We are definitely happy that we came.

Are leashed dogs allowed in outside areas?
From their website, "Though we love our furry friends, we do not allow pets of any kind other than service animals on the patio and in the Tasting Room as we serve food. "

Was thinking about going to the blending party on July 22nd. $130.00 per person seems a bit high. Was wondering from others who have attended in the past if they felt this was a good value or not. Was there food and if there was what type?

The Opolo Blending parties (3 of them) sell out quickly year after year with many of the attendees coming every year. The food is appetizers, fruit, Deli sandwiches and desserts.
