Take the dirt road slowly and you and your non-4-wheel drive vehicle will be just fine. There is... read more

This is a great trail for anyone who loves hiking. The dirt road that will lead you to the start of the trail is approx 3-4 miles long, so it can be a bit boring. Just keep a slow pace to avoid damaging tires, I...More

Take the dirt road slowly and you and your non-4-wheel drive vehicle will be just fine. There is only signage on the start of the hike. We mistakenly took the smaller trail to the left at the beginning and after scrambling through tight squeezes and...More

Super hike through a neat slot canyon. Ladders and scrambling (in part to access the ladders) made the hike a challenge but ok for anyone who is generally athletic and active; no climbing skills required. Lots of folks seem to do the simplest out/back on...More

Outside Palm Springs in Mecca, CA, 4 miles down a dirt road you will come to Painted Canyon. Park in the parking area and walk down a wide sandy path into the canyon. Shortly you will come to a small sign on your right that...More

This area has many hikes with all levels of difficulty. We hiked the flat bed for 1.5 miles until we could go no further. We did not do the rope and ladder climbing. It seemed like fun for younger families and teenagers. Instead, we explored...More

This is a great hike to do in the Palm Springs area. It is approximately a 40min drive from La Quinta and the last part is on a rutted dirt road so be conscious of what vehicle you take out there. We did the ladder...More

This was a great way to spend the day... the ladder hike was a challenge... not that it is steep or the elevation gain is a killer. But a challenge in that you hold your breath hoping these janky ladders will hold your weight. The...More

This is one of my favorite hikes anywhere. The landscape is breathtaking, the slot canyons are so cool and the ladders just add to the fun! Bring a lot of water, and don't go without a good car suspension system!! The drive out to the...More

Lovely hike to do, not too challenging and so many beautiful sights. The first time I went with my family was Thanksgiving weekend so it was very busy and had to wait to get through some of the more narrow spots but it was still...More

It is at first hard to believe that such a place exists in the seemingly barren desert. But lo and behold, a few miles off the the road is a gorgeous hike. There are actually three associated trails - Ladder Canyon, Little Painted Canyon, and...More

I don't think this is a state park. Since there is no fee to enter Painted Canyon. There isn't anything to drive around. You actually park in a small lot and then hike around. If you are physically able, I would... More

I don't know of any ropes on the main climb. All fixed ladders. The hike from the plateau toward the antenna towers and then back down the dry canyon is a bit of a slog so we usually just reverse our path back down the... More

My best advice is, if you have a smart phone with navigation system, just type in painted canyon as your destination. Took me right to the entrance of the hike. When you enter, you have two options. Left: will take you... More
