This is a bus tour through various wind mill farms in the Palm Springs area. The bus held about 25 and was air conditioned and had small fans. We went in November and it was perfect, may not be so perfect in the heat of the summer.
The driver was also the commentator and he was fabulous. He knew everything you would want to know about windmills, energy and the area. His name was Ken and he was funny and very informative.
The downside for me was that this truly was a bus tour. You only get off the bus once in 90 minutes and that one time you are not close to the windmills. You never get close to the windmills. I was hoping to stand next to one and maybe see inside of one, but we never got close.
I would recommend this tour for someone who does not walk well, however, one older lady had a hard time climbing into the bus.
I would not recommend it for someone who wants to see a windmill up close.

We recently took the Best of the Best Windmill Tour in Palm Springs, and had a marvelous time. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, having worked on the wind turbines himself, and explained everything about the wind turbines. They dot the landscape outside of Palm Springs in a natural wind tunnel, and you can't help but wonder about them every time you pass by. Now, we know kinds of interesting facts about them. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who is curious or just likes to know about interesting things.

We researched the local tour companies and decided on Best of the Best Tours. We were in an open Jeep and took the three combined tours that were offered; Indian Canyons, Windmills and Homes of the Rich and Famous. Our guide was Pam and she was excellent. We had a wonderful day and learned a lot.

We went with friends and I regret it. It cost my husband and I over 80 dollars to be driven to roads near the windmills. We could have done the same on our own. It was more of a lecture and infomercial for the greatness of wind technology than entertaining. I was very disappointed I thought it would be more hands on.

Like New Yorkers who've never visited the Statue of Liberty or the Empire State Building because they'd seen them forever so why bother to make the trip, my wife and I toured a Palm Springs attraction yesterday that we'd overlooked the 12 years we've lived here. It was the tour of a lifetime! Our amazing guide, Ken, from The Best of The Best Tours in Palm Springs, took us by tourbus to visit the famous wind turbine farms we'd seen for years in films, TV, newspapers and while driving along the I-10 freeway between LA and Palm Springs. Ken told us everything interesting and important about the "windmills"... their types, sizes, costs, surprising flexibility, number of homes each serves with electricity, environmental impact on wildlife, and much more. His delightful sense of humor kept everthing light, and his remarkable knowledge gained by growing up in the local desert, saving the lives of injured rattlesnakes, and serving for years as an advisor to wind-generating companies gave us insights unavailable any other way. There was never a dull moment in this expertly led, unscripted, two-hour tour, which included brief walks among the wind turbines and alongside solar-cell power generating farms. After a lifetime of tours through cities, national parks, historical sites, harbors, et al, this was the most fascinating, superbly conducted tour we had ever taken. You don't have to be a science and technology buff to love it. This tour is a delight and a revelation.

Just outside Palm Springs proper are hundreds of wind turbines. What are they doing there? How did they get there? What's involved in this fascinating renewable energy source? If you want to really learn about wind turbines, take a Best of the Best Tour. We did, and we loved it. For two hours, Tom drove us around the wind farms and explained so many things about them - how they're financed, what they cost, what kinds of environmental studies are required, how they're erected, how they work, how much energy they created and how it's distributed. It was more like a class than a tour, and the two hours went by in a flash. Check it out. You won't regret it.

Ken knows the wind turbines. And he can talk. Most of the time he's really interesting. But you won't get a word in edge wise. He does the cheesy tour-guide thing. But it's all fun. I loved seeing the turbines up close. And learning about the history and future of the wind farm.
My only complaint is that we only got off the bus once. Of course, I was the youngest person on the tour-- by at least 25 years-- and I'm not that young. So perhaps he knew his audience.
I'd highly reccomend this tour. I'd been wanting to do it for years, and am glad I did.

This a bus ride around the huge windfarm just outside Palm Srings. Our guide (Ken) was very knowledgeable, and also very enthusastic. There was an opportunity to get out of the bus and see some wind turbines "close-up", but no real hiking was involved. The explanations seemed to give a good balance between "pros" & "cons" of using wind-power to generate electricity, and described in quite some detail the ways that environmental impact is measured & controlled. Before the tour I would have bet a months Utility Bill that power generation could never be interesting - and I would have lost !!

We took the Bonanza tour. It was a very good history of the area mixed with some walking tours in the mountains, tours of stars past and present homes, and an introduction to wind and solar energy farms. All in all well worth the trip. Be prepared for any weather though. We started at 9 am so you needed a windbreaker but then in two hours it warmed up. We were in an open air jeep truck so more elements to deal with. When they say good comfortable walking shoes believe them. No opened toed shoes or sandals would be best for the hikes. A tour worth taking.

We were fortunate to tour the windmills on 11/12/14 with guide Ken Huskey. We have toured all over the world and Ken is the absolute best guide we have ever met. His knowledge of all aspects of windmills and competing sources of electricity is amazing. He also provides an interesting narrative about desert wildlife and the challenge of protecting it. Ken's style is informative, smooth, humorous, and interactive with his guests. The highlight of our 2 weeks in Palm Springs.
Don't miss his tour.
