Viewpoints and blooms breathtaking

We took this route from San Diego to Palm Desert by accident, blindly following our Waze. So glad we did!

Went on short wildflower hike and saw lots of flowers with the beaver tail cactus blooming. Even saw a gecko enjoying the flowers. Finished the day relaxing at the beer and wine garden with great music. Looking forward to next year's event!

We went to the National Monument in hopes of seeing desert wildflowers. There is a 3-mile loop trail, the Randall Henderson Trail, that takes you through a wash and up onto Ridge overlooking Palm Desert. When we did the hike, many of the plants were budding, but not many were in bloom. Most impressive were the Beavertail Cacti and Bitterbush.... More

Well maintained and marked trails lead the visitor on different routes through the mountains. The difficulty of the walk/hike is up to the individual. Tours are led by knowledgeable volunteers on certain days and times of the week. We have been on the tour and this year just did our own thing. It was very peaceful and not at all... More

We visited this area on 03/03/17. The Visitors Center was closed because staff & volunteers were preparing for the 03/04/17 Wildflower Festival & 5k Run. We parked across the street & walked in... We hiked the Randall Henderson Trail, which was well marked & easy to follow. I do recommend that you wear sunscreen, hat & hiking boots. Be sure... More

This is a somewhat challenging but gorgeous drive to get from the I-15 or the Coast to the Coachella Valley. One ends up in Palm Desert but can easily reach Rancho Mirage, Cathedral City and Palm Springs via the 111 at the end of this gorgeous drive.

The Randall Henderson Loop Trail trailhead takes off from the Santa Rosa & San Jacinto Mountains National Monument Visitor Center parking lot. This is a fairly easy loop trail 2 1/2 miles long. There are more picturesque trails I the area but this trail makes for a nice hike in the late afternoon shadows of the Santa Rosa and San... More

We have always found time to visit the Santa Rosa & San Jacinto Mountains National Monument Visitor Centre on Highway 74 north of Palm Desert, and we have never been disappointed. The volunteers who run the Centre are helpful and knowledgeable about the area, and there are exhibits to look at and a wide variety of souvenirs to purchase. They... More

The trails are well kept and can handle anything from beginner to advanced. There's a nice gift shop that provides advice and an interesting movie about the area.

We visited here again in 5 years, but there was not enough snow as we expected. But, it was still very good to enjoy this mountain.
