This is NOT a zoo. It is a wonderful place for critters to live a happy/carefree life! So glad we found it and spent nearly 3 1/2 hours just walking, riding the tram, and watching/listening to the peaceful happiness.

On a trip to Palm Desert in Palm Desert, CA, we had the opportunity to visit the Living Desert. This is a wonderful experience for Kids and covers animal from Africa and the American deserts. I took my 3 grandchildren (10,7,4) and they had a wonderful time. They got to touch animals like a desert tortoise, BOA constrictor and others.... More

This is a very nice place to visit with a lot of animals to watch. They also offer some special activities like reptile show and the opportunity to feed a giraffe. The feeding of the baby and mommy giraffe was highly appreciated by our 8-years old daughter. We walked around the zoo but they also offered a shuttle which could... More

They are only open until 1:30pm. You need to come as early as possible to see the animal - they escape the heat the same as we do and will hide in the shadow at noon time. Although the animal are the main attraction I also enjoyed the broad selection of desert plants. And again - after 11am it starts... More

the Living Desert has something for everyone. It has a huge variety of species to peak your interest and entertain. The giraffe feeding is very popular and gives everyone a great opportunity at picture taking. I enjoyed all the birds, and the animals.... and other creatures of every size and kind. The enclosures are all roomy and well kept and... More

Great place to see animals up close. They have some great exhibits like a train village with model trains, you can feed giraffes, go on a camel ride, learn about insects, and butterfly house. February the weather was perfect, not to hot.

We were here in July, which is extremely hot, so go early in the morning to beat the heat. The animals are out and it was not very busy. They have done a great job with the displays.

A liitle out of the main town but definitely worth the effort. Large expanse of grounds and worth the drive (just a little too gar to walk as you will do plenty of walking when you get there). They have a couple of pressed penny machines (see photos) if you want a permanent souvenir of an animal that you saw.

This zoo was well managed and seemed to take great care in the welfare of the animals. The park was overall in very good condition and it appears it must have many wealthy benefactors as the footfall was very low. We did visit in the height of summer which is the quite season for the park due to the high... More

I find this to be one of the hidden treasures of the desert. Great for all ages. Learn about animals, plants, ecology and more. Season pass is a true value.
