Beautiful course and very fun to play. Deer greet you on the green and the back nine is full of amazing ocean vistas. Staff is welcoming and knowledgeable. The course supports it's community in a variety of ways- they host their local middle and high school golf teams and are very welcoming of youth who play respectfully and are genuinely interested in learning the sport.

Had sonme time to play a round of golf while visiting family in Monterey. Heard about the "Poor Man's Pebble Beach". Gave it a try and was not disappointed. Course does not beat you up. I had not played golf since August and I rented clubs ($45.00 for TitIeist A1 irons and 913 Driver & 16.5 fairway wood, Hybrid with a Scotty Cameron putter). Paciguc Grove is short, so I played the back tees at just over 5700 yards. Front 9 is interesting but not spectacular. Greens roll very true. The Back is links style with great views of the Pacific Ocean and Dunes. Took in the views si much, dif not scored great on yhd back. Didn't care since the goal was to play golf in California. Staff is very friendly and the cost is very much worth it ($55.00 for a Wednesday 10:30 tee time). Not the Big Time courses in the area, but in good shape and I was impressed with it. Pace of play was also very good. Not rushed and nor stuffy like thd Big Name Courses. I hope I can play there again next time I visit Monterey.

Played Del Monte in the morning and this place was our choice hoping to get a nice sunny day so we could enjoy the views. I thought the front nine was boring and nothing to write home about. Course conditions were satisfactory. Greens were in excellent shape but many parts of the fairway could use some watering. Bunkers? I was not once in them so really didn’t pay attention to its condition. Hit hole #11 and the vibe absolutely changed. The brown spots on the fairway didn’t seem to matter because for seven holes the scenery was breathtaking and it was all worth it. I’l love to play #11 through #17 over and over again. I’d come back simply for the views.

Came for the ocean views on the back 9, went to the pro shop, was told we won’t get 18 holes in, so we settled to play the front 9. As I asked to get a bucket to go to the range, the guy at the desk said that I won’t have time, even though I had 25 minutes before my tee time. He then informed me he was trying to get me out early for some reason. The front 9 was ridden with fairway grass longer and patchier than my front yard and the greens had an abundance of splotches and unfixed ball marks. Pace of play was absolutely HORRIBLE. No player assistant riding around, single in front of us was playing 2 balls(pretty sure he was an employee), and this was after we got sent out early. We finished our round, then we saw groups BEHIND us proceed to head to the back 9 and continue to play. Not sure why they were able to play, and we were told not to when we were really only there for the back 9. Also, the employee in front of us played two holes on the back. Not sure why we were the only ones not allowed to play on the back, but probably a good thing to not endure the crappy conditions that were still waiting to be played on. Spend the extra 20 bucks and play at del monte 20 minutes away from here.

This is a terrible restaurant, over priced and low quality food. They close the bathrooms at 3:00 pm leaving the golfers who finish after that with no facilities!

The city of Pacific Grove made a big blunder by giving the food concession to this disaster. Avoid on your trip to Monterey.

The first nine holes greet you with deer grazing. It's absolutely beautiful. The last nine holes are by the ocean. It does get cold and windy so be prepared. Also, you'll be put in groups of 4 (if your party is less than 4) so an individual player will need to join a group of 3 other players. Players and staff are very polite and friendly esp the folks making the tee time reservations - awesome customer service.
The greens can do with a bit more care and maintenance. Can't beat the price and the wonderful staff though.
Will definitely be back. We drove 1.5 hours to play this course and liked it alot!

I play a lot of golf all over the place. People say a lot of great things about Pacific Grove, but I don’t see it. It’s a short course that’s pretty easy. The only thing that gives it a little bump is the ocean views on the back nine. Other than that the course isn’t that interesting.

The conditioning was decent, though rough around the edges like most muni courses. The greens were a little bumpy, but looked nice.

I thought the course was fun to play, but the consensus in our group of golfers from all over was that this would be the worst course in our respective towns. Take away the ocean and it’s pretty average.

Love this place...especially the back 9! Wow...what beauty. Saw deer all over the course just like at Pebble. Every hole on back 9 has ocean views. Windy and cold so be prepared. 17th hole right on the 17 mile drive. What a bargain to play here. Front 9 very basic but back 9 makes it iconic! Dont miss it!!!

Spent a long weekend in Monterey, was able to play Spanish Bay and Pacific Grove. Spanish Bay was a beautiful course, part of the Pebble Beach resort, absolutely first class experience.

But all I can think about is getting back to Pacific Grove.

The front 9 gets a bad rap on most every review I’ve seen, but I thought holes 3, 6, 7, and 8 were great, even though not as scenic as the rest.

Of course the back 9 is the star, I had to stop myself a couple times to take it all in. Crashing waves, barking sea lions, wild deer in the fairway, the view of the lighthouse…it was just amazing.

The greens were just as good (and just as fast I thought) as Spanish Bay. Fairways were in good shape, and everything just seemed perfect.

The feel of this course is comforting. The staff at the pro shop were great, and the restaurant/grill was better than you’d expect. (Breakfast burrito!)

It’s most definitely not a ‘poor man’s Pebble Beach’. It’s not a super-fancy resort course.

It felt like home.

We enjoyed playing a round of golf again at Pacific Golf Municipal Golf Course. It was a lot of fun. The course had just reopened due to the virus. The greens were in great shape. Staff was nice.
