In short: I called during weekday business hours to ask about renting a kayak for the following day with our group, no one answered the phone. I emailed their website as well, no reply was returned. I tried again the next day when our trip was planned and there was still no response. Went to their location while they were supposed to be open during the day of our trip (Saturday), but it was closed without an explanation for the full day. Since they are housed in the Humboldt Lagoons State Park Visitor Center building, I believe they are supposed to keep the Visitor Center open during hours for the public as the State Park website says. Three days later and after our trip was finished? Still haven't heard a peep from these guys. My opinion of this outfit as a local and a kayaker? They aren't very professional, don't seem to care much about business or customers, and they certainly aren't keeping an eye on things. The word 'clowns' comes to my mind for failing on the basics or running an operation. Whatever you do, don't let them leave you waiting and hanging on a trip with your friends. You may never hear back.

We had a great time and lot of fun kayaking on the lagoon. Brance was really cool, full of cool advice on where to paddle and was very helpful. A must do in the area!

Thoroughly enjoyed our guided kayak tour. Paddled into coves, through tall grasses, into coves, and to the beach. Our guide was both knowledgeable and personable, and our time on the water more than met our expectations. Highly recommend...it's a must do!

I could not find this on trip advisor and so started to create a new entry and then it popped up. Contact them for directions. It is by itself on the side of the 101. They gave us a landmark of a red school house. I almost did not realize it when I saw it. We had a good time. We go kayaking a couple times a year in bays and man made harbors in Southern California. This is one of the few times we went to one not connected to the ocean. I believe it once was connected to the ocean but now there is a manmade "dam" across the former opening. I believe it has a few gaps to let the water in and out. We did not kayak far enough to find out. We thought we could, but the end is deceptively far away. It felt unusal launching from grass instead of from a dock. There is a little water way that empties into the lagoon and you can paddle up it for 5 minutes or so before it gets too small. There is an area where many birds hang out creating an impressive amount of sound. If you like kayaking you will enjoy this.

Our boys ages 13 and 16 took a guided kayak tour. They were gone a good 2 1/2 hours with their guide and had the lagoon practically to themselves. They went to several points and took breaks, including the beach. It was a nice diversion and fun way to experience the beauty of the area after having been hiking in the parks. The staff are really easy-going, friendly and flexible. They loved it.
