A peaceful, short walk through the dunes to a spectacular beach! Smooth sands, crisp ocean smell, and thunderous, crashing waves will greet YOU. When looking down the shore, way off in the distance, it seems to disappear in a mist.

We live in Missouri and traveled by car across several states to see the coastal Redwoods and the Pacific Ocean. This was a once in a lifetime experience and Gold Bluffs lived up to all my expectations and Hope's. Beautiful, large campsites, clean bathrooms, polite and friendly parks people. The beach was gorgeous and clean. And the forest. . . Was even more beautiful than I'd dreamed it would be. Lots of wildlife: elk, small mammals, gray foxes, seal, and a wide variety of seabirds. Highly recommend.

It is a beautiful sight looking back on the bluffs from the water in the afternoon. The bluffs are mostly covered in trees. If you go to this beach, it is worth the hike to see Fern Canyon which at the end of the road.

Fern Canyon was the objective on this excursion. It is situated at the very end of the road where there is a sizable parking lot. Regular passenger vehicles can get as far as the campground, in my opinion, but going farther may be dicey because when we were there, there was a sizable puddle/stream lined with loose pebbles along with a bump to negotiate. If you stop at the campground/beach parking lots, it will add another mile to your hike. The road was otherwise in good condition and mostly graded except for some pot holes here and there. The parts where it gets narrow is what causes anxiety because if you're passing another vehicle, it can get very hairy. However, there were pull outs in many places to allow cars space to maneuver. I was able to drive the whole road in a vehicle with a little over 8 inches of clearance. I included a photo of the larger stream/puddle you have to drive through to get to Fern Canyon. This was taken in late June 2019. The Hike: Fern Canyon is a short and easy hike. When you reach the first stream crossing, turn right and follow the stream. You don't need to hike to the end (where there are stairs to go up the canyon for a loop) to see the most spectacular parts. If you get there at dawn, you'll like have the road and the canyon to yourself. Not a good idea to wear sandals because it gets muddy in places and there's a lot of movable rocks you're stepping on. The park rangers have laid out foot bridges over all the stream crossing so your feet never have to get wet.

Like some have mentioned, the road to get here is pretty crazy. Very narrow, not really made for two cars in several spots. I said to my husband I thought it was worse than the Road to Hana on Maui. The beach itself is amazing and the area around it is so incredible to see. The cliffs that are right next to the road are so beautiful. We enjoyed a walk out to the beach finding some really cool shells and rocks. We were planning to go on to see Fern Canyon by the gate was closed so we couldn't.
