About
The Tahoe Via Ferrata is Squaw Valley's newest outdoor adventure. Located on the iconic Tram Face, the Tahoe Via Ferrata towers above The Village at Squaw Valley. A Via Ferrata, which means “Iron Road” in Italian, is a protected hiking and climbing experience that will scale the iconic rock face. Using permanent steel anchors and cables, participants are safely attached to the rock throughout the experience.

Had a wonderful day on the mountain with Ben. He was very professional but friendly and encouraging. We climbed much (but not all) of the path. I found it to be a comfortable experience if a bit harder than I expected. Highly recommended though.

I'll admit, I was really nervous the night before doing this. It sounded amazing but the photos made my palms sweat. That anxiety melted away the moment I arrived at the office and met the team at Alpenglow. My guide, Dave, walked us through the gear and climbing techniques very clearly, and his enthusiasm for climbing was irresistible. By the time we arrived at the start of the via ferrata and clipped in, I was thrilled and ready to roll. I felt very safe the entire time, thanks to the continuous cable system and Dave's presence. The route itself is brilliantly designed. I never felt like I was grasping for a handhold or foothold that wasn't there. And yet, the views are dramatic and hair raising.

In short, I had the time of my life doing this, and I hope to return for another run.

This was without a doubt the best thing we've ever done at squaw, and we are Lake Tahoe regulars going back 20 years. Unbelievable that we can climb this part of Squaw. Exhilarating but felt perfectly safe the entire time. Want to take all our friends here!

We had the best time EVER!!! It was beyond my expectations of what I thought it would be like. Our guide (Dave Nettle) was AMAZING!!! He made the adventure so fun for our family (myself, my sister and my 18 year old daughter). Dave was so knowledgeable, experienced, and best of all FUN. Not to mention that he made us feel safe and secure as there were some pretty exciting (challenging) parts on the climb.
I would LOVE to do it again and maybe try a different course. But I highly recommend it to everyone. You will not be disappointed!!

The entire family from my 13 year old cousin to my 65 year old mother in-law really had an awesome experience on the Sun Dial route up Tram Face. It’s challenging and exhilarating with expansive exposed views. The entire trip from beginning to end was enjoyable. If you’re looking for something a little out of the ordinary it’s well worth every penny. Alpenglow Expeditions does a fantastic job of making the climb safe and fun. Can not recommend them enough!

One of the best days I've ever had outside! As soon as I saw the Instagram posts about the Tahoe Via Ferrata with Alpenglow Expeditions, I knew I wanted to try it. I'm new to hiking and exploring the outdoors, and I love the adventure aspect of climbing. But being a rookie, I was a bit nervous. From the beginning--when I was planning my trip and speaking with Sean (not sure how he spells his name!) in the office--the Alpenglow/Via Ferrata folks couldn't have been more accommodating or just plain friendly. They truly are some of the most pleasant people with whom I have interacted in the tourism and outdoor industries. (I work in tourism and marketing.)

I headed to Olympic Valley from Pennsylvania, still a bit nervous. But when I arrived at the Alpenglow offices, the friendliness and welcoming atmosphere continued, and I felt much more excited than nervous. Logan, my guide, was remarkable and very aware of the fact that, coming from Pennsylvania, I wasn't used to higher altitudes. (My house sits at about 200 feet; I was climbing to 7500.) He knew how to pace my climb and made sure I was drinking water and resting when need be. He was reassuring and totally awesome. The climb was magnificent and absolutely exceeded my expectations--looking down on the village of Squaw Alpine while standing on exposed rock that I never thought I would be able to climb was an experience for which I am humbled and grateful. The Tahoe Via Ferrata has taken rocks and heights that may have been out of reach for people new to climbing or who are looking for something beyond a normal hiking excursion and made them accessible. I felt safe. I learned a lot. And I couldn't believe I had climbed as high as I did.

It was an absolute privilege to climb with a company that guides people up Everest. It was something I never thought I would be able to do. I'm already planning my return trip for next summer, and I'll be bringing people with me.

If you're having any doubts, let them go. This Tahoe Via Ferrata with Alpenglow Expeditions is totally worth it.

As Jack Kerouac once said, "...in the end you won't remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. Climb that goddamn mountain." That's solid advice that I'm glad I took. And The Via Ferrata made it easy, fun, safe and memorable. They rock. (Pun intended.)

Yesterday my husband and I and our friends hiked/climbed the Via Ferrata. It was so much fun, even better than I imagined. I have only rock climbed once before and found this to be easier with the ladders and cables. It was an excellent workout and I found some new muscles I didn't realize I had!
Will was an excellent guide and answered all of my questions.
I highly recommend the Via Ferrata and can't wait to return when the full course is finished.
This is a great addition to the Squaw Valley area.

An incredible breathtaking adventure! Emily was an amazing and helpful guide. I had to overcome several difficult maneuvers and climbs where fear set in. She helped me overcome the fear with several mental exercises by calming my nerves, breathing and easing the fear of heights. This is one Birthday (67) I will never forget! Thanks Emily and Alpenglow Expeditions for delivering a thrilling Birthday.

So much fun! It's only 800' of climb. I didn't want it to stop, but we ran out of rock. Oh well...
