Lovey view of the seals

A beautiful drive up the lagoon. We saw lots of seals with their babies, basking on the sandbanks and lots of little egrets. There is also the Audubon Canyon nature reserve. You... read more

A beautiful drive up the lagoon. We saw lots of seals with their babies, basking on the sandbanks and lots of little egrets. There is also the Audubon Canyon nature reserve. You can then go back to San Francisco via Stinson Beach or up over the Tamalpais Mountain Park. Either way is lovely.

Seal & pup resting place. Was able to see lots of animals. Also went to beach in Olema, CA. Excellent for shell collecting. A local beach with very few tourists. Highway 1 to these locations provided beautiful views.

The Bolinas Lagoon has stopping points and pull offs all the around it. I gather a lot of folks just view it from Stinson Beach, so are missing out. As you travel to Bolinas, but still in Hwy 1 pull over to see the hundreds of seals resting at the sand bar in the middle. Low & high tide mark... More

On our drive along the coast, we drove by and stopped at Bolinas Lagoon. This is a wonderful place to see birds and seals.

Fabulous spot for wildlife. Few places to park along the main road to look at them though. Finding Bolinas proved to be a challenge as the sign was missing.

A great place to park on the roadside and look at nature. Snowy egrets, Grat Blue Herons, Seals, small sharks on occasion. Take the first major road left heading north of stinson Beach to find the Bolinas road (The locals keep ripping down the roadsign to keep away the less adventurous and for a quieter community) and head over to... This is a fabulous place to bring budding ornithologists who want to view egrets through the nesting, mating, deliver of new chicks cycle. It's a great day trip out of the City-breathtaking drive up Panoramic Highway too. Audubon Canyon Ranch is an excellent place to begin with an overview. Bring your binoculars and a picnic.

This is a local's favorite and a popular attraction. The lagoon is tricky to visit - parking is very limited and the tides are a big factor. I have seen low tide with the water out 1/4 a mile or a high tide, where surfer's were getting trapped up against the cliffside. The beach is cobbley and very charming. The... More

Combine your visit to Audubon Canyon Ranch with stops at the lagoon to watch the egrets and herons feed, and if you are lucky, watch ospreys hunt! Lots of other waterfowl too.
