About
The Ojai Valley Museum highlights the history, art and culture of the valley through museum exhibitions, programs and events. Housed in a National Register Building (originally the St. Thomas Acquinas Church) the museum includes semi-permanent history exhibits, a Sespe Wilderness diorama, highlights from the permanent art collection, and a Chumash Interpretive Garden. Four major original exhibitions are mounted each year, alternating between history and art subjects. A museum gift shop featuring books, gift items as well as locally produced cards and postcards. A tourist information office is included on the SE corner of the building. It is staffed 7 days a week with brochures, maps and magazines to help you make the most of your trip to Ojai. Regular events include 10:30am Saturday historic walking tours of downtown(no tours in August, September or on Ojai Day) for only $7 which includes museum admission and Town Talks on a wide variety of subjects (typically 3rd Sundays at 4:30-6pm) for $5. Check website for most up to date schedule of Town Talks.

Very interesting and informative exhibits! Learned a lot about the history of Ojai and some remarkable people such as Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus- a teacher who founded the National Retired Teachers and also AARP!!

Small, but lovely and meaningful

This is a small museum that combines information about the history of the region and of Ojai with a few relevant pieces of art. The permanent exhibits explain the history of the Chumash peoples and later settlers and gave me a quick but insightful introduction to Ventura County and to Ojai. I was also fortunate to see the Founding Familias exhibit, which is also professionally done and includes local artifacts (a hair wreath, Spanish-style trousers, bridles and saddles). I loved the photos of the descendants from the founding families, some of whom contributed to the exhibit. It really gave a sense of the cultures and traditions of the area flowing down to the present day. Without visiting this museum, I would not have appreciated the history or the stories of the people who settled this area.

Two large rooms covering different aspects of Ojai’s history since the days of the Chumash Indians. Helpful docent, contribution suggested. Easy parking and access.

We recently visited this museum with our 5 year old daughter. Having returned to Ojai after almost ad decade, it gave us a very good perspective on the City's history, native plants, people, and how it has evolved throughout the years.

Amazing little museum

The museum celebrated a Jubilee Year from Ojai Day 2016 through Ojai Day 2017. It represented the museum's 50th anniversary and the centennial of the E.D. Libbey-led transformation of dusty Nordhoff into beautiful Spanish-style village of Ojai. So much of informational exhibits,it was amazing.

Great Orientation Opportunity for the Area

A convenient and historically interesting attraction in the town center. Displays were visually appealing and interesting. My group of 12 friends took advantage of a private tour led by two excellent volunteer docents. This included a historical walking tour in downtown Ojai.

Great Visit!

Our first stop after arriving in Ojai, we were delighted to be warmly greeted by Pam. She gave us the low down on local arts, restaurants, upcoming events and more. It was a delight to get to know the town through a local's eyes while learning more about the architecture of the region.

We were there in May 2016. for wedding. Stopped in with family to check the art display. It was good but, not what we expected, looking for more historical information. We did enjoy are time there though.

Cool, quick but rich!

On a hot morning this gave us a chance to get a flavor of the town. It's built in the former Catholic Church and is still a bit hushed, but worth the time and the donation, if you have it!
