Booked Pronto as a private charter. Nick and Brian were awesome and were super helpful to address our needy group at all times. They worked hard to find the best fishing spots, and our group of 7 caught 80 fish. Wonderful day and highly recommended.

Things that actually happened on this week's half day Oceanside Sea Center fishing trip I was on: 1. About 6 drunk guys screaming for hours for ALL the boat to hear about child rape, prostitutes, masturbation, sodomy, etc using language that always included keywords such as m*therf*cking, b*tches, c*cks, and f*ck (among other urban dictionary favorites). Poor couple celebrating a birthday were mortified as was my party. 2. A guy visibly drunk since before we left the harbor was allowed to bully the other passengers and preventing other passengers from fishing from the rear of the boat (the captain was informed and aware of this behavior and still allowed it throughout the trip) 3. A guy was allowed to leave 2 rods with lines in the water in the prime corner rail... UNATTENDED for the ENTIRE trip despite complaints to the captain. Braided line from the unattended lines was blown into other anglers faces (despite braided line being commonly known to slice open flesh like butter) and tangled others frequently. I informed the captain of this phyiscally pointing the unattended active fishing rods. He just chuckled and shrugged his shoulders. 4. The captain did not stop the boat to fish until 2 hours into the 5 hour trip and total fishing time was only 2 hours. He was chasing rumors of bonito for 1.5 hours (I empathize, I paid for this trip chasing rumors of professionalism on this boat) and ended up at a barren location where we fished for about 15 minutes before he moved on. Per the captain: "there was kelp here a year ago". Apparently no one told him almost all the kelp beds are gone north of Leucadia. But I'm glad he used my time and money to figure it out. Why be prepared when it is on someone else's dime, right? 5. Only about 4 people who weren't crew caught fish with a total boat count of under 10 (5 keepers), despite them reporting 23 on their catch count with over a dozen more phantom fish were reported as released (maybe previously caught fish got pardons?) 6. They did not even have a first aid kit available on board. 7. I was so glad I convinced a fishing buddy to try this landing instead of one in Mission Bay where we usually go... he was very impressed bu the dangerous clown show I dragged him into... and for only $60 and 5 hours of his time! So... fun for the whole family!

If you want to get away from all the craziness in the world, this is the adventure to take. A simple getaway for a group of guys and their families (kids) decided to charter a fishing trip. We ended up on the Pronto with Captain Ernie and his deckhand Bryan. They were fantastic: Fun, Knowledgeable, Helpful, and Entertaining. Our group was half experienced fishermen, while the others knew NOTHING. Actually, had never been fishing before! Captain Ernie and Bryan took care of us all. We learned, laughed and had a blast. We ALL caught Rockfish, Bass, and the young boys even caught a shark!!!! The trip was amazing. Not only do I recommend this experience, I am already planning a second trip with Captain Ernie and Bryan. My kids loved it and can’t wait to return! My friends and their families enjoyed a day away from the madness of this pandemic, work and school. It’s was exciting, fun, and worth every dime. AN ABSOLUTE MUST!!!!!

Great local place for a quick half day of rockfish fishing. Clean boats, good bait and would also be a good place to launch a private boat. Nothing huge or world records to be had, but some solid rockfish to be had and some great little places for happy hour when you get back. Monday, oyster special upstairs at the Lighthouse are pretty fresh and worthy of a trip alone. Clean, family friendly operation with tons of free parking on the other side of the train tracks.
