Whether you're turned on by art, science, history, or just human idiosyncrasies, this museum has more than you can assimilate in a day, or a week for that matter. It's a great place to start learning about the wonders and mysteries of West Coast life and events. The docents are, for the most part, patient and responsive, willing to answer... More

Great for kids & adults especially on Off the Grid Fridays. This activity is free while the museum has an admission fee. but well worth it.

The Oakland museum is a great local museum. I especially like the chronological order of the eras and the photo galleries. This is a hidden gem and many people would rather flock to San Francisco attraction, Free admission on the first Sunday, so come check it out. I assure you, you will be back.

A super interesting museum tucked in the heart of Oakland. Lots of great hands on exhibits for kids and some great art and social impact exhibits for adults. To give you an idea of the breath, on the day we went we saw a big exhibit on bees that was totally accessible to kindergarten age kids, another exhibit on marijuana... More

The Oakland Museum is not to be missed on your museum agenda. There is so much California history on display here as well as contemporary exhibits of artists that set the stage for many disciplines and artistic schools of thought. The location is fabulous too. You can get there on BART, eat in Chinatown and walk to the lake before... More

Informative, creative, comfortable, authentic. Made we feel like I understood the whole of California and its history. The history section was the best, the art section was okay.

A truly fantastic gem of a museum. From the outside, it's very unassuming. In fact, if you didn't know it was a museum, you'd think it was just another downtown office building constructed by some fancy architect with quarried stone, lots of cement, and no windows. But inside, it's three levels of gems. The middle level holds the History Gallery... More

Been here a few times on Friday night, when entry is half off, and they have all the food trucks outside. There's also cocktails and live music. I didn't realize how big the museum is.. there are different rooms - the ART room, HISTORY room, and the SCIENCE room. and then the last time I was there they had a... More

We have had this museum on our bucket list for years, and just now found the time (and a grandson based excuse) to visit. Sure glad we allowed a full day. There is much to see, and one should allow sufficient time for both the history section as well as the Natural Science exhibit. We will have to come back... More

Friday night is food truck night, followed by a visit to the Oakland Museum. Outside the museum there is dancing and street fare from food trucks - a joyful atmosphere, great diversity, and a taste of what makes city life inspiring. Most recently, the museum had an amazing exhibit featuring the history of cannabis in California. There is always something... More
