We love this museum and have been members for years. The current museum is the result of combining three previous museums. The result, one museum offering separate areas for Art, History, and Natural History, solves the classic museum issue: my wife went to the history part while I prowled around a special exhibit on cannabis. On Friday's the museum offers... More

We enjoyed the variety and well laid out exhibits. It gives the flavor of the area's history. Friendly and helpful staff. There is a parking garage which was a big help.

This Oakland Museum goes beyond its wall. With the price of admission you can enjoy their large sculpture garden that abuts the civic heart of Oakland and Lake Merritt. On Sept. 17 when there was dragon boat races on Lake Merritt this museum spilled over to the lake area with a family bird watching activitiy and various information tables. So... More

You can never go wrong at this museum. The core exhibit on the history of California is very interesting for all ages, and the rotating exhibits are almost always great. It's a good place to bring out-of-towners, particularly history buffs.

I loved the California history. From Native Americans, to the Gold Rush, to present day immigration and the film industry, the museum is a worthwhile and memorable visit. Friday nights there is music and lots of food trucks outside the museum, and 1/2 price evening admission. They currently have a marijuana exhibition on display! Really interesting to learn about the... More

I've been volunteering at OMCA for a few years now and it has been a wonderful experience! There are special exhibits that vary from more adult themes like "Altered State" the very first museum to give an unbiased and thorough exploration of all sides of the marijuana debate to a past exhibit on Pixar Studios. Most of the exhibits have... More

While anytime a visit to the Oakland Museum of California is a worthwhile excursion, going on a Friday night is the best. Every Friday, the museum stays open until 10pm, the admission fee is half price and there are all kinds of special activities and events. There is live music and dancing out front in the 10th St. Amphitheater, and... More
