There is no comparison of going to this theater to watch films. I just returned to this theater after 30 years and appreciate to Wurlitzer organ serenading us before the movie instead of bombarding the viewers with endless commercials. I’ve spent my childhood going to this place for summer movies and it still has its wonderful charm. This is truly a landmark theater for film goers.

My husband and I walked past this theatre many times during our week in Oakland, but we did not go in until close to the end of our trip, as we were too busy doing other things. How silly of us ... this was one of the treasures we found on our vacation. The theatre is absolutely beautiful with gorgeous marble (I think) floors, a grand crystal chandelier, stunningly tall columns ... and inside the theatres is a beautiful piece of history that should only be preserved and cherished ... tapestries on the walls, decorative walls and ceilings, beautiful wall sconces ... just breathtaking. So take a moment, take some time, go on in and enjoy this hidden gem.

We visited the day after Christmas to see Star Wars final film. The theatre is obviously a huge piece of history for the neighborhood. The matinee was reasonably priced, the seats were comfortable, and the sound system has been updated and was worthy of Star Wars.

Get your political BS off the marque. Making disparaging remarks about half the country. You don't care about democracy, you just want a one party state with the democrats in charge.

The thing I love most about this theatre is the popcorn. They have the BEST movie popcorn out of all the theatres I've been too. But here's my beef - the cost of said popcorn is high! I know popcorn is expensive no matter what movie theatre you go to, but the size bag they serve here for the price is ridiculous. And it's the perfect size bag for me, but it's almost $5!
That said, I love coming to watch movies here because it's different and it seems that the previews are way shorter. The downstairs theatre is quite large, so depending on the movie, you could arrive late and still get a good seat.
They have smaller theatres around the corner and upstairs, and just know the upstairs theatre has many, many stairs.
As of this writing, most movies before 5:45 p.m. are discounted - even on the weekends.
I'm all about supporting local businesses, and this one has been in the community longer than I've lived in the Bay (going on 20 years), and I hope it continues on for decades to come.

Live organist in the main theatre when we went, loads of much welcome leg room and a good atmosphere. Ideal for seeing "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood"

Tuesday is $5 movies all day -even 3D ones. You can't go wrong. Parking can be difficult but since I live in Oakland I usually ride my bike

We do come here for a movie as the theater is big and well-maintained. Come for the big screen and big sound, and the neighborhood is great for finding a meal. Parking a little difficult.

As long as you sit on the main floor (not the balconies), this is a comfy place to see a movie on the big screen with excellent sound. Parking can be a bit difficult, prepare to pay at a meter.

One of the most gorgeous theaters. And, the $6 for matinees is a steal. My only complaint, which also is an issue maybe three days a year, is the lack of air conditioning, which on a sweltering day for a 2+ hour movie, is almost unbearable. Regardless, this is a gorgeous old school theater and wonderful.
