We have been to 2 choral concerts here and sat in the "cheap seats" because the acoustics are so good the sound quality was as good as up front. Interesting interior with high ceiling and laminated beams. It is worth a quick walk through if you are attending a meeting downtown and just want a break from the hustle &... More

This is a beautiful modern cathedral in uptown Oakland. You don't have to be Catholic to go inside and appreciate the fish shaped building. There are wonderful wooden louvered walls for acoustics and a large organ which when played can fill the room and gives you goosebumps. There is a pretty cool crypt inside downstairs. Its especially lovely at night... More

In this magnificently beautiful church by Lake Merritt, I was dismayed when I could not hear the minister's message or the personal tributes given by friends/family of the deceased. Their voices echoed off the rounded walls and the acoustics hurt your ears. It is a shame that the architects/engineers didn't catch this one!

I attended a concert here around Christmas and was surprised at how quite unimpressive the interior is. I thought that it would feel mystical and inspiring, but it just seemed bland and too bright. While the wood paneling is lovely, it didn't create a warm feeling--perhaps because of the lighting. If I were a visitor to the Bay Area, I... More

Not the best building, especially for a cathedral and landmark for beautiful Oakland - looks like a big chrome and glass vagina. Supposed to be a fish but .....

Beautiful modern architecture. One of the most beautiful cathedrals in the world. It's located directly across from Lake Merritt, which is in the center of the city. It is a tourist "must see."

My only experience of the Cathedral was while attending a deeply moving performance of Mozart's Requiem by members of the Oakland Symphony Choir on September 11th a few years ago. To my untutored ear, the acoustics seemed superb, and the sanctuary space was uplifting and impressive, yet austere. The contribution of this monumental edifice to the lakeside skyline seems to... I walked over here while exploring the area, and this place has a nice ambiance. There are multiple places to sit, relax, and absorb the ambiance.

One of the most amazing modern churches I have visited in a very very long time. Don't miss!!! The way they captured the light coming into the cathedral is spectacular and the altar is otherworldly.
