Lovely house and surroundings, good for those who like old houses and the stuff that fills them

Taking a tour of the house gives an up close look at how wealthy people lived in the old days. If you or your kids have never seen an historic house, then this is a good sample... read more

Even though they have it written on the door and signs "open to the public". We weren't able to see anything inside but walked the lovely grounds.

I misunderstood the web site. I thought the house and grounds were open Mon to Fri and there was an organized tour on Wed at 11am, however, the tour is the only time the house is open. The rest of the time you can only walk around the grounds. The house looked nice on the outside. Where to park was confusing... More

Nice to take a walk on the grounds during the day and attended functions in the Pavillon. Best time to go is during the Christmas Holiday. Take the tour of the House - docents are available with the Dunsmuir House history and every room has a Christmas tree beautifully decorated. They have carolers and a horse and carriage ride around... More

Taking a tour of the house gives an up close look at how wealthy people lived in the old days. If you or your kids have never seen an historic house, then this is a good sample. They have special events, like tea at holiday time, and I've been to many private parties and meetings using the space. Conference area... More

This was my first visit to the Dunsmuir-Hellman House. Weekend tours are offered in December. Every room in this 3 story estate is decorated for Christmas. When we entered we were greeted by docents and a stunning 30 foot decorated tree. Prior to the self guided home tour we attended high tea on the grounds in a home built in... More

My sisters and I wanted to celebrate a birthday at the Dunsmuir House. Though we were highly impressed with the actual house, the horse and buggy ride, and the gardens we were insulted by the High Tea. We have been celebrating birthdays throughout Central California with a High Tea and found this place wanting in the following areas: No choice... More

History at its best walk in yesterday. You may rent for events. Lake Merritt is the back yard which makes for pretty view.

The mansion makes for a beautiful setting for a wedding and the grounds are really nice for a stroll or picnic.
