I hang out in Jack London regularly. It's the ferry landing, has a movie theater, farmers market, festivals, movies under the stars, Blue Bottle Coffee, the produce warehouses, Ben &Jerry's, Ghazal Indian restaurant for lunch, and some chains interspersed with local businesses. Plenty of places to sit and people watch. The original Oakland bar is here, along with half of... More

Numerous food to choose from. Nice scenery. Some days have outdoor market. Whether you grab a drink from a dive bar in the produce District (Merchants) or have a glass of wine overlooking the bay there is lots to choose from.

We have gone to Jack London dozens of times and each time really enjoyed it. There is a long walk along the marina and estuary. Many different food choices and entertainment. Don't miss Scott's seafood. There are boat shows at different times of the year.

Obviously, being in January, things were slower, BUT, three restaurants and two bars and looking at the marina was all there was.

Not a bad area to go walk around . Its certainly worth checking out but it's mostly just restaurants and hotels . WAtch out for trains as they do run down the middle of the street .

The waterfront shops and offices are mostly empty. Just a handful of restaurants, Yoshi - for Jazz, a multiplex cinema, ice creamery among many beautiful and new buildings where businesses have left. Amtrak is nearby, there is a free shuttle in case you don;t or can't walk. But it's very clean, feels safe day or night and is actually very... More

This is a warehouse area of Oakland that (to me) is still emerging from sleepier times. It gets a lot of hype for the restaurants and views, and yes, they are there, but don't expect the spectacular, you can see it all with a short walk. If there's a street festival it's usually a very cool scene, and there are... More

Jack London Square is a nice little area on the edge of the water in Oakland. I took my two nefews because it was close to where we were at the time. It was about 2pm on a Wednesday and the place was a ghost town. The harbor is pretty to view. The most interesting thing about the Square is... More

Come here for views of the water, but mostly for the restaurants. You can see a statue of Jack London, his cabin, and on Sunday there is a small farmer's market.
