This place is enchanting with its caves and cubbies and trees and especially, the artistic embellishments. We've visited a few times before, but today I noticed an emphasis on staying on the painted yellow path. This may or may not be asking people to stay out of some the decorated "caves"-some were explicitly telling you not to enter, others, not... More

Three couples were making a loop around the Salton Sea. This was a planned stop and it did not disappoint. It's a beautiful piece of pop art in the middle of nowhere. There are no facilities, no concessions. Just a monument made by one one man's faith and vision. Powerful and inspiring.

If you are driving around the southern end of Salten Sea this is worth trying to find and take a look, especially if you like the odd things people do in the desert. My GPS could not find the location and it is not marked on the highway of in town, I ended up using my cell phone Google Maps... More

People who spend too much time in the heat of the desert can get a little crazy. This is a great example of desert strangeness. Impressive and worth the trip off CA 86 or anywhere in the area. Free, and open for explanation. Please leave a donation. Considering what a commercial operation would charge I'd leave $10 PP. It needs... More

About an hour and ten minutes south of Indio in the middle of no where is Salvation Mountain. We were there for about half an hour. You can appreciate the decades of dedication to this project. It was interesting to be up close and view how this artwork was 'constructed'. Of you are looking for some true folk art, stop... More

Salvation Mountain is a must for anyone who is traveling through the Imperial Valley. The colors, sights, and uniqueness of it all will capture your curiosity, but the story behind this Mountain is truly remarkable. I love how God called this guy to build something unusualy, in a place that is not so desirable, and He did it. I always... More

I've been out to Salvation Mountain three times and always enjoy the place and the trip out into the desert. I guess Salvation Mountain is someones very colorful ode to the bible. It's a man made hill that rises up out of the bleak desert landscape looking as if Dr. Seuss and Jesus got together and made an art installation.... More

A quirky mix of pop-art and theology in the middle of a desert. Great photo opportunities, can be crowded at times.

Salvation Mountain is very difficult to describe. You have to see it to believe it. Basically it is an artificial, hill created over many years by one man. It is certainly worth taking a camera. Close by is Slab City which can best be described as an alternative living area for free spirits and those wishing to hide out or... More

if your passing thru Niland, stop in to stretch your legs at Salvation Mountain, located on an old airforce base, get out of your car.. and take a look around, interesting designs, and just looking around one mans vision.. now sadly passed away, but his mountain remains... relax... and enjoy
