Lovely walk above back bay
Apr 2019 • Solo
Very scenic with harbor views. Great location to watch 4th of July fireworks above Newport Dunes. Park off Dover Drive. Military Vet Memorial at point. Weekend before memorial weekend is amazing with 1776 American flags posted. Don’t miss it!

Great views

I love running through this park. The climb up the hill is a good workout but the views of Newport are great. Also, go early in the morning and watch the sunrise over the mountains.

Excellent views

Park in the public lot adjacent to the church. Look for the giant cross that doubles as a cell tower. Walk out and visit the Marine memorial, then stroll the long walkway toward the Back Bay. You'll get some great views as well as good exercise. This is a perfect place to take kids and dogs on leashes.

Nice park overlooking the Newport Bay
Jun 2016 • Family
This is a nice park overlooking the Newport Bay. The parking and the access is super easy for this hidden gem of the Southern California. A short paved trail will lead you to the main trail overlooking the water and the bay. You can return from this point if you are in hurry or take the main trail. You can take this main trail all the way paralleling the white houses on one side and water on the other... and then you can return back the same way or make a loop. Either way, it will be pretty soothing!

Field of Honor
May 2016 • Friends
The week before Memorial Day the Exchange Club places 1776 American Flags on the Castaways Park. It is open to everyone for about 3 days. What a special treat they provide our community. It is a patriotic high for all to honor our war heroes. We take our grandchildren to celebrate our country and those who have kept us free. When you finish walking and reading about the veterans tied onto the flags you have the opportunity to honor them by purchasing a flag which comes with their name and description of them and usually a photo. There is a permanent flag pole and close by a handsome bronze statue of a rifle carrying Marine. On the back of the marble wall behind him are the battles that the US Marines have fought. When we visited there was a beautiful white rose bouquet tied with yellow ribbon.
The Castaways is the perfect spot for this stirring patriotic walk. You will meet many families with various aged children, couples walking dogs, joggers and like us...Patriots.

Best place for fireworks!
Jul 2015 • Couples
This is a lovely little park that overlooks back bay in Newport Beach. It is absolutely the BEST place to watch fireworks. Park at the church next door and walk to the park. You can see at least 5 different displays from here without hassling with crowds or traffic. Arrive about 7:30 for the best place.

Pay your respect to the Marine guarding the point.
Mar 2016 • Solo
Castaways is an oasis of peace and quiet in the city that is getting noisier and more crowded all the time. I personally like the mornings the best. Go to the point where the old Castaways Restaurant used to be and pay your respects to the bronze Marine on duty there. Pause for a moment and thank the men and women who died so you are free to enjoy this view.
