Pirate Coast Paddle Company is the best Stand Up Paddle board adventure in Southern California. We provide rentals, lessons, tours, events, kids camps, corporate events and excursions. Come glide over the pacific on a Stand Up Paddle Board to experience the ocean in a exciting new way. Stand Up Paddle boarding offers a great core workout, recreation, and lots fun!Pirate Coast is Adjacent the boat launch and Bistro. Pirate Coast is on small beach on the marina side of the bridge near gabezbo. Look for bright blue tables and flags.

I had initially signed up for the SUP Glow event months back and was completely looking forward to it. The event which I had signed up for happened this past Saturday and I was totally blown away by the experience. As with Pirate Coast in general the staff make this company the greatest of it's kind in California. Mark hires amazing people. The guides for the group of approximately 20 people were Mike, Jay and Austin with Mike as the lead. Not only is he an amazingly skilled paddle boarder he is the coolest person and his personality and ease of dealing with customers makes him a natural for this type of thing. Jay and Austin took the middle and back guide positions and are also friendly, helpful and easy to talk with. The event itself was amazing. We set out towards the PCH bridge right as the sun was setting. It was dark by the time we turned around at the halfway point and besides some boat wake, the water was glass and the wind was non existent. The lights from the bottom of the boards shone upon the algae below that lit up like stars. As we neared our launch point at the end of the adventure I was a bit saddened that it was ending but still glad I got to experience it.
Thank you to Mark for putting these events on and running the best paddle board and kayak sales and rental company around. Always a pleasure to toss my business your way and tell as many people about it as possible. You have earned it.

It was a great experience to paddle at night and see into the water with the LED lights. However, the price is pretty steep ($50) for an hour paddle with the only interaction with the staff being the Instructions at the beginning. Nice staff but no tour, no discussion of what to look for, no history, didn’t announce loudly when we turning around.

Got there at 7:15 PM. Signed the waiver. Sat on the picnic tables and watched the sunset with flying fish popping in and out of the water. Locked up our stuff for free. Got a quick run down by the crew. Hopped on and the rest is Hx. Great glow from these boards. Great staff. There were some drunk people in the group and we felt bad for staff that they even had to put up with those guys. Come sober. Its a workout and nobody wants some idiot falling all over the place. The route we took to paddle was beautiful at night. You could see the city skyline and beautiful homes and boats lit up all around. Use this company and you won’t be sorry. Park in the street save $10. Plus gates to the marina parking close at a certain time so street parking is easier.

This unassuming operation in a corner of the Newport dunes beach area makes for a nice activity. They have standup paddleboard‘s and kayaks, both one person and two person.
Pirate coast is staffed by a very helpful staff. (Although one of them was a bit unclear as to the hours of operation.)
I rented a kayak for an hour and a half and was given minimal instruction although paddling a kayak should be self-explanatory for most people.
I would recommend that you observe the tides before heading out so you can use the current to push you back to the starting beach. (You don’t want to be exhausted and then have to paddle against the current on the way back.)
Other recommendations: wear sandals, Bring sunscreen even on a cloudy day. Countdown getting your pants wet so dress appropriately. (The dripping from the paddles usually ends up across your lower waist.)
Have fun!

Always a great time! This is my second night paddle with Pirate Coast...look forward to a third! The evening breeze on this calm area of the ocean with the sun setting is relaxing and tranquil. Don't be intimidated if you haven't paddled before...the staff is amazing at showing you the ropes and watching over everyone.

I would recommend paddle boarding at night with Pirate Coast Paddle Company. The workers were all very helpful and knowledgeable. The views at night and lights reflection in the water were beautiful. It's also perfect for social distancing. Haha. Try it out.

I took my adult son and his girlfriend to SUP Glow on a Saturday night. We had all previously been paddle boarding during the day, but never at night. It is a bit pricey, so I don't see us doing it more than once. Maybe it's like a "Bucket List" item. It was very well run. Staff was very friendly. We all felt very safe and cared for the entire time. Paddle boarding on the water in the dark was very relaxing. All three of us were glad we went.

Awesome tour! The tour guides here are so nice. The whole staff is extremely accommodating, friendly, and helpful. Even if it is your first time they will monitor you and help you as needed. Can't wait to go back!

Pirate coast has a great location on back bay, good selection of rental boards, and a knowledgeable staff, we didn’t need instruction but I have seen good things from their instructors. It’s my go to paddle spot to rent boards, a paddle to the bridge and back is about an hour. Bring sunscreen and a waterproof phone case.

Was so cool to do in the evening when the water was calm and the boat traffic non existent. The weather was perfect. We had a large group and we felt like the tour guides didnt help "guide" us much. Felt a little lost at times. Maybe they would be better off in a kayak or something more versatile for guiding.
