We have lived in Orange County for a long time and until I read a review of the American Modern Art on display I had no clue this gem existed. It is near the fashion island shopping mall across from the Island Hotel. Parking free and the tickets for seniors was $7.50. The current exhibit of American art has something... More

Orange County is most fortunate to have the American Mosaic: Picturing Modern Art Through the Eye of Duncan Phillips exhibit in Newport Beach. The Phillips Collection from Washington, D.C. has generously loaned 65 works now on display from known artists including Winslow Homer, Georgia O'Keeffe, Edward Harper, and Thomas Eakins. This exhibition is well worth viewing for those who appreciate... More

I visited this museum for the first time about a week ago. It is rather small so you can see all of the exhibits in an hour (or two if you really like to linger). The current exhibit (summer 2016) has a number of paintings from the Phillips Collection from Washington DC. Several of the pieces have information about them... More

Marilyn Minter exhibit should not be missed. Cool building. Check out the trees out front. Strange entrance made me miss it twice, not sure why it is so difficult to outline an entrance. And, drive all the way in to the parking lot because the first area is the administration building only - not the public entrance. Again, why isn't... More

We were excited to visit the museum as there seems to be a dearth of good art museums in Orange County and based on their website, this museum holds some nice works in their permanent collection. We were disappointed, though, when visiting in that little of their collection was on display. There was retrospective of a contemporary artist that took... More

I love art museums but there $10 admission charge with a lack of a permanent collection is sad. The building and grounds are underwhelming. If you have a limited amount of time, this is not worth your valuable time.

I enjoy going to museums. I am the kind of person who reads the placards on every exhibited item, enjoys audio tours, etc. I state that first so anyone reading this review can understand how let-down I was when I went to this museum. It is VERY small (the size of a wing in most museums). Even watching all the... More

A quick feast for the senses, combines techno visual artistic displays with symphonies of sound to tantalize and delight. Multiple galleries included colorful tactile sculptures of contemporary materials, videos, wordography and pictographs.

Assemblage, a word that we learned in school as we gazed upon many collections from Getty initiated Pacific Standard Time, which OCMA played an important part. Robert Rauschenberg is called the first postmodern artist, born in 1925 to 2008. He blended materials and methods as any enfant terrible can. Now at OCMA we can view his combines collages and though... More

Before LA had a legit Modern Art museum, this place got a lot of donor money. That's kind of dried up and with it the big shows. It's really just a small regional museum now.
