As a local to Newport Beach, I was pleasantly surprised and thoroughly enjoyed the cruise around Newport Harbor. As we cruised past the mansions in the harbor, our gondolier shared stories of the rich & famous people who lived there, making us feel like tourists in our home town. It was interesting, relaxing, beautiful, and romantic (especially when he sang to us as we went under the bridges - beautiful voice!) I highly recommend this experience for both locals and visitors to Newport Beach. The sunset cruise was a perfect time to enjoy the harbor. I recommend adding some food (even if just cheese and crackers) and/or drinks to enjoy on your cruise to make it even better. Finally, with COVID-19, this is a perfect social distancing activity for members of the same household to enjoy together.

Big surprise for our anniversary: Amore' cruise, nice bottle of wine, chocolates, gondala scattered with rose petals.... plus romantic message in the bottle! The Newport Beach backbay is beautiful especially in the sunset. Our gondolier, IGOR, was fun and knowledgeable, and he even sang a lovely song for the occasion! Will repeat the experience!

We took the sunset cruise with procèsco. What an amazing experience! It was so quiet and peaceful. Watching the sun set over the water was full of beauty. Our gondoleer did an exceptional job. He was fun but unobtrusive. He was knowledgeable and thoughtful. Overall he made our experience perfect!

Horrific experience customers beware Boat ride was OK let me explain the situation we got to the boat ride after some traffic and they said they needed to up charge us $40 I understand that np otherwise it would be a half hour ride we had to use the bathroom after a long ride we go to bathroom number 1 you need a key from the employee to access I am guessing it was there bathroom I WAS SURPRISED THAT IT WAS NOT . I was shocked ! after spending a lot of money to fined out that they didn't even have there own bathroom! I found out from there employee that it was a public bathroom that didn't make any sense as you needed a key to access it !!!!!! First bathroom was all flooded the second bathroom was stained all over the seat finding out teenagers who do drugs inside have access to it was that explains the bathroom situation. This was pre paid so we had no choice to take the ride as we were traumatized by the experience of the horrific bathrooms and of course we got the lunch with the experience and were disgusted with the lunch. I knew it was from a restaurant but we still felt grossed out.I have the drone package on top of all this so we had to make the best out of it as they were filming us! I have called in spoke to a rep there to explain the situation they have said that they cant even do a partial credit !! Please be aware they have a dispute charge on there site In the unlikely event of any issue with your cruise, we would appreciate the opportunity to resolve it prior to involving the credit card company." Therefore, if you dispute any charges to your credit card, there will be an automatic dispute fee of $25.00 charged to your credit card account." I have never seen a dispute charge like this before I wonder why NOW I KNOW newportbeach.gondola.com… AS STATED ON THERE SITE ! It is sad as a company like this would ruin peoples experience. As I am stuck with this memory forever with no option to dispute as I have taken this cruise the only thing I can do is warn people if you need to use the bathroom go before or you will be having nightmares of the experience and out a few hundred dollar's !!!

Response from GondolaAdv, Manager at Gondola Adventures, Inc.
Responded Aug 27, 2019
For anyone reading this review, perhaps "Jason" (in all of our records and communication as Ezra) should have instead posted a review for the bathroom on our landlord's property (shared by dozens of tenants) rather than our gondola service. We have about 20 emails back and forth with Ezra/Jason. As soon as the cruise was over, the emails started coming in complaining about the bathroom, and from the very beginning he demanded a refund or he would post negative reviews. When we declined to refund because of the condition of a bathroom we have no control over (as an aside, we took them to another bathroom on the nearby residential property when they reported the bathroom needed cleaning), the emails began to cite disgust, being unable to eat because of the experience in the bathroom, being traumatized beyond words, recurring nightmares, and a ruined trip to California – all due solely to seeing a bathroom. If that’s not a shakedown, we don’t know what is. To clarify a few things: 1. The cruise was booked for 1:30pm - 2:30pm. He called and emailed indicating he would be late and we offered him the option, over the phone, to extend his cruise for an additional 1/2 hour. There was no "upcharge" sprung on him upon arrival - we discussed it in advance of his arrival and he requested the extension. 2. We don’t quite understand why Ezra/Jason was so shocked and scandalized that we don’t own our own bathroom, but rather have key access to two shared bathrooms on the property. We don’t have the budget (likely somewhere in the six-figures), nor do we have permission from the landlord, to install our own bathrooms. 3. It’s California. Teenagers – and even full-grown adults – smoke weed. I guess they don’t do that on the East Coast. Ezra/Jason didn’t SEE anyone smoking weed – he just heard that it may happen there, and how dare we send him to a bathroom where weed may or may not have been present sometime in the past. Scandalous. 4. In one of Ezra/Jason’s first email complaints, he claimed that the food was “raw” and therefore he couldn’t eat it. Our lunch cruises are cold sandwiches and salads. After we pointed this out to him, he abandoned his “raw food” complaint and changed tack. Here he claims he couldn’t eat the food because he was so traumatized by the restroom. However, he ordered drone videography on his cruise and the footage shows his wife eating her pasta salad, smiling, laughing, and enjoying the cruise (even though she wouldn’t don the tiara that Ezra/Jason presented her as a gift aboard). 5. We rarely have customers who are anything other than completely satisfied (read our reviews). To avoid frivolous disputes, we do ask our customers to address any issues with us in advance of getting the credit card company involved because it is a time-consuming process for something that can often be resolved by a phone call or email. In Ezra/Jason’s case, the claims were ludicrous and agenda-driven. 6. Interestingly, Ezra/Jason pre-included a gratuity for his gondolier (the same gondolier who escorted him to the two different bathrooms), and, at the end of the cruise, added an additional tip to his credit card bill. I don’t know how many people are inclined to over-tip on an “horrific experience.” It’s at times like this that we wish there were a page to review our customers.
