We really enjoyed our tour with Platypus Wine Tours. We never felt rushed and Chris was determined to make our trip memorable and relaxing. Had a great lunch and snack of cheese and crackers, which was a welcomed addition after going to four wineries. The...More
Our Platypus Wine Tour we went on in November was the best ever (thanks Gary!!). It was educational, personal and more fun than I’ve ever had on any other tour. It’s very affordable and the wineries we visited were the best. If you’re thinking of...More
This is the second tour we’ve taken with Platypus (we did the Sonoma County one in November 2017...and this year we covered Napa Valley). It is super easy to schedule visits to the big/high profile wineries yourself....what stands out in our experience with Platypus is...More
Platypus was recommended to us by the inn where we were staying, and we were happy we followed their advice. We had a great day. What did we like? First the choices of wineries. Four very different ones, ranging from more upmarket, to more family...More

My 70th birthday party was highlighted by a wonderful wine tour through Napa Valley hosted by Sam Honey. He introduced us to four boutique wineries in Napa that we wouldn't have found on our own. The best thing was Sam's extensive knowledge of Napa Valley;...More
We are a couple from Costa Rica, so the prices are pretty high for our standards. However, this tour was so fun and so professional, that we do not regret any penny spent. We booked on the very last minute and the owner even picked...More
We went to four different wineries. There was a chocolate pairing at one of them that was excellent, and all tasting fees were 15$ each (+5$ for chocolate well worth it).
They gave us unlimited water. Cheese and crackers on the bus, and a great...More

Thanks for your suggestion. You're right in that these tours have an entirely different feel early in the day (folks are a little shy, very polite, very interested in hearing stories and learning about the area and about wine) and later in the day (everyone...More
Our hotel concierge has recommended either doing a private tour or group/join in tour with Platypus Wine Tours since this is our first time to the area. We read the Trip Advisor reviews and they all seem great, and they're ranked very highly. . Does anyone have past experience with them on here? Would you recommend? Is there another group tour you would recommend? Any thoughts on group vs private winery tours? We are first timers visiting Napa and got overwhelmed by the long list of...More

Platypus group & private tour (6 Replies)
We have a group of 4 heading to Napa next month for wine tasting. We are thinking of doing a group tour with Platypus Wine Tours on Friday and then hiring a driver through them for a private tour on Saturday. I thought it would be a good way to get the best of both. Anyone have any input/recommendations? Thanks!

Why two different ones ? Why not just the private tour ? Platypus is well regarded so is this to save money ? Does it ? You can do two different areas or regions with the driver if you need to do 2 days

My husband and I are visiting Napa for two days (Tuesday and Wednesday) in May and will be staying at the Andaz. We have booked an all day tour with Platypus Wine Tours on Wednesday. We will be driving in from San Francisco on Tuesday and want to visit 2 - 3 wineries on our own. We enjoy all types of wines; however, Chardonnay is our favorite white and Pinot Noir is our favorite red. Based on what I’ve read about Platypus Wine Tours they seem to visit smaller wineries so I was thinking we...More

Carneros is your place- lots of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Cuvaison, Etude, Sainsbury, Nicholson Ranch. Highly recommend going over the Golden Gate Bridge on your way to Napa. That's the free direction :)
