We made a reservation for a tasting here on July 4, and we were so glad we did. We were in the downtown Napa location. Although we did not have the vineyard views, Dave's presentation and interaction with us made this it's own unique experience. Dave was personable & knowledgeable. He walked us through every wine, gave us the history of the winery, and talked Napa food with us. I would totally recommend visiting this winery/tasting room. I'm sure the vineyard location is gorgeous, but this tasting room was an awesome experience. Thank you, Dave!

This was a far superior experience for the wineries on first st and what was open.
The wine itself was excellent. We ended up purchasing some after the fact and really enjoyed the tasting area.
The lady who did the tasting was extremely relaxed, knowledgeable and authentic. I enjoyed the experience or just sitting talking to her about the wine. She really knew the history of the owner as well which was really cool.
Highly recommend this place even if the price is a little higher!

We strolled into John Anthony's Tasting Room in downtown Napa by chance, and did not regret it. Miguel was phenomenal. He was extremely knowledgeable and provided approachable insights about each of the wines we tasted. While there, we indulged in the most delicious chips, topped with gouda, truffle and lavender. They were so scrumptious, my mouth is watering thinking about them now. We enjoyed our time so much, we came back after our dinner reservation to taste more! Out of the four tasting rooms we visited for the afternoon, this was hands down our favorite. A trip downtown would not have be complete without a visit to John Anthony!

The tasting room in town is the only one open until 10pm. You can pop in for a glass of wine or choose one of the tasting options. The quality of wine and the service were excellent. A lovely vibe and nice ambience.

The John Anthony Vineyards are breath taking. Their vineyard has a very ornate and historical church, with plenty of stained glass, to provide a once in a lifetime wine tasting. Great wine.

A business owner in downtown Napa recommended John Anthony’s tasting room on 1st street and we loved it. We visited many boutique wineries, but at the end of the day we were very impressed with John Anthony’s wines. Loved Rick! He was very knowledgeable and friendly. I would highly recommend this tasting room!

Been to Napa many times but this was our first visit to John Anthony. They only sell their wine from the store front or via club. The wine is good but not worth the price per bottle. The Cabs are nice but Markham, Grgich and Schramsburg cabs are better for the same or less price.
We did enjoy the experience and our guide, Jermaine, was very pleasant

First time trying John Anthony tasting room. Very impressed with the atmosphere and the wines. The cab 2012 Coomebsville was fantastic. Jerome was a pleasure serving our wines. Nice relaxing environment to taste wines late in the evening.

John Anthony wines has the 1st St location that is listed here that this review and (for wine aficionados that want a more custom, intimate experience) there is the Church Vineyard location, but you have to know the family to know the place.
1st Street: Open to foot traffic so easily accessible, tasting prices very reasonable and within the range I'd expect given you get to taste 6 wines (if I recall) with pretty ample pours (see list below that I think we tried) . There were two of us sharing a single tasting and there was plenty o' wine to go around! They make a lovely sparkling wine, a few Sauvignon Blancs and a Chardonnay. These are all very nice wines. But John Anthony's true calling is in his reds. If you're a serious wine buyer this is the location you'll want to visit as the tasting wines are also fairly customized to your tastes. Here, we were lucky enough to try their 2010 Merlot in addition to a reserve Cab that were both stunning. The Merlot in particular I've never had anything like it with notes of fig and aromatic sweet tobacco, shoe leather, dried fruits. Like heaven in a bottle. Went home with a few bottles without even thinking about it. Having dreams of more... =) The 2016 Napa Cab was fruit forward and really easy drinking even at this young age, while the Coombsville showed more tannins and acids that will make it even more exciting in a few years! It's in an upscale and upbeat downtown location with swanky atmosphere. Reservations recommended but we didn't have one and were able to walk in w/o a reservation on a Saturday night. I think that was because (in a COVID world) only one other table was in the tasting room at the time. There were no surprises here and I really loved the reds. Definitely worth a visit!
Church: Now, if you're a collector or serious wine drinker I recommend Church. Church Vineyard in Napa: For those with a fear of missing out this is for you. ;-) This is an experience! We had to get to know the family to see this. See photos of both experiences in this post. We absolutely loved the ambiance: very exclusive and comfy feel, personable and knowledgeable hosts, beautiful building in an old restored church from PA. It's a really special experience.
Here are the wines that were available to us at 1st St. Oh so many more seemed to be at our disposal at Church (with legal limits of course!) if the wine educator knows your collecting preference.
- La Dame Michele Blanc de Blanc
- 2019 Carneros Sauvignon Blanc
- 2019 Church Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc
- 2018 Reserve Chardonnay
- 2016 Oak Knoll District Cabernet Sauvignon
- 2016 Coombsville Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
Enjoy and you are welcome! ;-) -elissa
