It was interesting to compare wine tasting in Napa/ Sonoma to the same thing in Michigan.
Obviously, California has better wines overall, however speaking of the tasting experience itself and hospitality- Michigan (Traverse City) wins.
Did not find Kieu Hoang Wine exciting.

I learned about wine in the 1970s in Paris, from the legendary Steven Spurrier (the protagonist of Bottle Shock). Even so I wouldn't claim to be an expert, but I can recognize plonk when I drink it.

Our host gave us a long story about how the immigrant Vietnamese owner, a chemist, uses science to produce outstanding wines. My personal opinion is he has no idea what he's doing.

Our group tried quite a number of the wines, and found almost all of them unappealing. There is a Basic wine tasting set, then 3 or 4 more levels above that. But it didn't matter which level any of us chose, all the wines were a disappointment.

There is no winery. You have your tasting on a house porch surrounded by vineyard. If you order the lunch, you get a heavy sandwich, soda, and chips.

During a 2-day tour of Napa, this was our worst experience.

Very disappointed and the worst winery we have ever visited! (for your reference, we've been to wineries in Europe, Canada, and now Napa&Sonoma). Totally a wast of money and time. The wines all taste like purely alcohol without any aroma or finish. The customer service rep did nothing but to tell us the price of each wine (can totally be replaced by an robot!). We joined a tour who picked this winery for us, and it was a full house on the bus, and not surprisingly, all of us thought the only value of Kieu Hoang winery is to make us appreciate the other wineries more!

What made all of us almost throw up is the giant pic of the owner, Kieu Hoang, right at the entrance, with the saying goes like this "Victor Hugo said God makes wine and Men make water; Kieu Hoang said Kieu Hoang makes both wine and water." You feel it!

Don't go to KH winery or buy any of its wines. We all deserve better.

Thank you for the visit Miss_VFT and for taking the time to write to us. We take great pride in our passion for wine, the wine-making process, and stand by our wines as one of the best in the Napa region. Our grapes are selectively sourced from premium Napa Valley floor and we have a renowned winemakers working at the Winery. We have received great feedback and positive reviews on our wines.

Rarely do we give Five Stars to any drinking-related establishment. This place, however, is exceptional.

This charming winery was recently bought and renovated by a mature entrepreneur, Mr. Kieu Hoang. It is in a beautiful area of rolling hills, on the paved highway called Dealy Lane, not far off Highway 121, between Sonoma and Napa.

Everything is on one level, and therefore wheelchair-accessible. The paved parking is adequate for 15-20 cars, but is not sufficient for buses or limos, which would be the wrong clientele for this winery anyway, as follows.

On a winter Friday morning, we had the remarkable good fortune to have the tasting room to ourselves. This winery has a modern feel, with a spacious, high-ceilinged tasting room, which leads to a balcony overlooking the vineyards. In the other direction, in front of the tasting room, there are beautiful colour-matched couches, appropriate for romantic couples, or groups of four or fewer. Somebody employed the right designer here. We enjoyed the sophisticated ambiance. The walls of the tasting room are covered with bright pictures, showing Mr. Hoang’s present and planned wine offerings. We had many questions about wine-making, and about the local area. The young man named Joey, behind the counter, was cheerful, well-informed, and eager to help.

We had a choice between two tasting “flights”, both of them focused on cabernet sauvignon. We tried the more expensive choice. We then relaxed in the front yard in the sunshine, with a glass of wine, listening to the birds. Unfortunately, the only food available was a basket of crackers. We feel that Mr. Hoang could improve on this by offering some olives or small chunks of cheese or chocolate.

This place is trendy and youthful in spirit – which we assume represents Mr. Hoang himself, but we’ve never met the man. Regardless, this winery might be best appreciated by the older drinker. (Let the limos of young women go up the hill to Artesa, nearby, which impressed us much less.)

We wish Mr. Hoang the best of fortune in his future winemaking. We make our usual disclaimer that we have no personal or financial interest in this property.

We just returned from the Kieu Hoang Winery in Napa and we were just taken to paradise by fantastic wines and an outstanding staff. We visited with Vu and Joey and tasted something different in the wines. The care and unique blending treated our palates to an exquisite afternoon. WE sat on the rear veranda and were awestruck by the view of the rolling hills of the Carneros region of the Napa Valley. This is a must stop in Napa. The winery is new and state of the art in all respects. The tasting area is clean and open and the staff is warm and inviting. A splendid time was had by all.

Simply stunning!!! This winery is simply stunning! Visiting this winery was the highlight of our tour, not only are there wine selections amazing, but the views are spectacular as well. Let’s not forget, the outstanding Decour, and exceptional hospitality .all your troubles will simply melt away,if a gentleman by the name of Rudy Mayer,is helping you.Moody was hands-on given us a great education pertaining to all the different wines and the ages of the wines, and the grapes that were used, and the regions they came from. He was extremely attentive and patient to all our requests. I highly recommend you visit this winery.

Kieu Hoang was our third stop of the day and our driver suggested it to have a mini-picnic on the patio. The wine was good but the patio was outstanding. Our server had a wonderful knowledge of all of the history and wines. She allowed us to walk among the vines and take pictures as well. My wife and I both really enjoyed it.

Some of the best grounds I have seen in Napa - very charming porch and people.
Tasting was super over priced as was the wine. Just me but I did not like the decor as it looked like a communist block
