Outstanding

Beautiful facility and vineyards. Staff made us feel welcome in every respect and the wines are outstanding. Meeting Doug Shafer was a nice experience. Expensive tasting but we felt the experience was worth it.

Beautiful winery and wines
Feb 2020
What a beautiful winery - nestled into the hills in the Stags Leap district and still family owned - a real treasure.
We visited with friends for a tasting and were lucky enough to meet the winemaker (very personable) as well as the owner (who made a point to come in the tasting room and welcome guests). Impressive!
Equally impressive are the wines. Our host was engaging and shared stories about the founding of the winery and how each wine got its name. The winemaker, Elias, has been part of the winery since 1984 - something unheard of in this industry. One of the vintages is even named for him for his ‘relentless’ dedication to his craft. His dedication is evident in these superb wines. They’re fantastic!
Reservations are required for tasting, but if you are looking to add bottles you may do so without reserving a time to purchase.

Meh....
Oct 2019
We did a tasting here because we heard a lot of people rave about their wines. This was our 6th visit to Napa/Sonoma in the past 4 years. Personally we just didn't love them. The tasting room and property is pretty. The staff was really nice and did a great job. We were kind of disappointed because we had heard such good things. After the tasting we asked some people who loved their wines and are members about the wine. They said it HAS to age at least 5 years or more. They talked about saving theirs 10 years. They were huge fans and honestly most people at the table loved their wine.

During our trips my husband and I have discovered we like younger wines. We like wines 3-5 years old. We don't have the patience to wait 5 years on something we purchased and we are not collectors. If this is not you and then you should check them out because they obviously are popular for a reason. :)

An Outstanding Experience on Every Level!

What a lovely way to begin our first day in Napa! We were greeted by our knowledgeable host, Phil, with a complimentary glass of wine. Our tasting included six pours of compelling wine, each followed by conversation and explanation of the way the wine was made and the flavors of each glass. Upon our departure, we enjoyed a complimentary glass of port paired with delicious chocolate! Shafer’s venue is beautiful and relaxing...exactly what we expected to find in Napa, CA.

One Point Five Fans

My husband's favorite cab is Shafer One Point Five, so this visit was mandatory and it did not disappoint. Incredible setting on the hillside provided the backdrop for a superb experience. Michael provided a professional and informative tasting with generous pours. Doug Shafer even popped in for a quick hello. Highly recommend!

Napa's Finest

Hard to find a better wine in all of Napa--or, for that matter, the state, than those of Shafer. A superb tasting experience awaits anyone who ventures up the Silverado Trail to visit this magnificent winery!

Shafer is Supreme!
Jul 2018 • Couples
This was our second visit to Napa Valley- and to Shafer Vineyards! Both times we have left with a car full of their wine! We did the full vineyard tour the last time we visited so this time we just arrived during their open hours to do a quick tasting and to purchase. We adored the 2015 TD-9 and the 2015 One Point Five and bought many bottles. We have been enjoying the wine with dinners at home and at restaurants, and it's always a treat to bring a bottle of Shafer out with family. We have been Shafer fans since the late 90s and hope they continue for many years to come!

Best of the Valley
Jan 2018 • Couples
If you can afford a tasting at Shafer, we highly recommend them. The grounds are beautiful, the staff wonderful and the wines are at the top of the list in Napa Valley. Thanks to our wine educator John who was both highly knowledgeable and wonderfully accommodating. The wines stand up for themselves. Not for everyone, but you will not regret this tasting!
