About
Jarvis Estate is a family owned winery dedicated to crafting a limited quantity of preeminent wines from our sustainably farmed, estate vineyards in the rugged hillside, four miles east of downtown Napa Valley. The Jarvis Estate winemaking facility is entirely contained within 45,000 square feet of cave tunneled into the scenic Vaca Mountains, and is not only a visual masterpiece, but a technical masterpiece as well. Wines are produced only from estate grown grapes and are cave-aged to perfection prior to release. Varietals include: Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Verdot, Tempranillo and a two proprietary Bordeaux blends.

Jarvis has ruined me for other wines. I came here for the first time three years ago and it simply took my breath away--not just because of the massive underground cave system complete with a waterfall where the tour takes place, but also because of the transcendent wine that to this day I lust after. The reds are their stars (though the Finch Hollow Chardonnay is equally incredible), and it seems every year the Lake William Blend keeps getting better. Of course, their reserve Merlot and Cabernets are must-haves. Is it pricey? Of course, but trust me when I say your senses will relish every rich, buttery, bold drop. Whenever we go to Napa, we go to Jarvis (thankfully, our friends are members so we take advantage of tastings, harvests, and balls).

We loved the Jarvis Estate winery. The entire wine production facility is inside this large man made cave. We were able to see a part of the production process as it was happening and enjoyed a private tour of the cave. The tasting was great with our own private tasting room, selection of cheese, crackers, and nuts and several great wines.

When I read about that the entire operations is built into the side of a mount, I knew I had to go the next time I was in Napa. They quite small, producing around 5,000 cases per year, but focus on very high quality products. The facility is very impressive and quite beautiful. The tasting experience was personal and high quality. Highly recommend taking the tour.

This is the most amazing and unique winery in Napa! Built into the side of a mountain, you are immediately struck by the topography and views on the way up to the Jarvis Estate entrance. As you drive onto the property, two flowering lily-pad, frog-filled ponds, bridges, stunning yard art, sitting areas and the cave entrance provide beautiful curb appeal and excitement. When you enter through the large front doors, the coolness of the cave provides refreshing relief from the dry hot Napa temps. We were immediately offered water and one of the staff volunteered to help another couple find a great place to eat in the area. The small on-site staff is very friendly and customer oriented. There is no "hard sell" and a waitlist to join their Members Club.
The tour was so interesting showing each step of the winemaking process from the minute the grapes come into the cave until they are bottled and sealed. Britton was the perfect host and tour guide with so much great information about the history of the winery and of Napa itself. We had 7 tastings with cheese, crackers, dried fruit, nuts and water provided as a palette cleanser on a gorgeous marble table set beautifully in a tasting room. The water features, barrels, Crystal room and and theater space make this our favorite place in Napa. We would do this tour again with our family!

We absolutely love Jarvis wines and a visit with Cora is always a treat! We’ve enjoyed these wines for several years now, and the “cave” is so unique that it’s a bonus. There’s not a mediocre wine in the bunch, though we are huge fans of Will’s Science Project, the reserve Merlot, and the Finch Hollow Chardonnay.
This is a “must visit” for wine lovers!

Truly impressive in regards to setting, tour, winemaking, and personality of our guide Rob. Incredibly complex Chardonnay that I was really surprised by, Cabernet Sauvignon was top notch, could be best in the valley. Will’s Science Project blend was very interesting. Bold and ostentatious in the best ways, felt like we were in a Bond movie with its carved out cave experience . . .

Such a beautiful experience! Loved the caves, the wine and the tour guide was so funny.
I really would recommend the experience after having gone to many international wine tours including some in France, uk and South Africa this one was unique. The wine was delicious.
Sad they can’t ship to the uk because the tax is so high is makes it impossible.
Thank you Jarvis team for a lovely experience

The approach to Jarvis is impressive; the gate swings open after you identify yourselves. If you had issues with mobility you could park along the circle at the entrance. Our tour/tasting guide, Susan, was awesome!!!! Professional, friendly and fun! The underground cave was amazing from the waterfall to the "gem" room and oak barrel filled hallways! The chandelier of fiberoptic lights suspended from an upside down tree trunk (sounds odd but gasp inducing drop dead gorgeous) over a huge table for special tasting was just plain stunning! The tasting was just as superb, tailored somewhat to the taste of the client and educational. Truly an experience we will talk about for a long time!

We had an awesome time at Jarvis. Not only is a beautiful and unique place to visit, with the cave and the inside waterfall, but the history of the family and the wines you taste are just amazing. We were lucky to join the tour with a couple that were part of their insiders club so we tasted a $400/bottle cab. But really all wines in the tasting were amazing and very different from any other wines we've tasted before. Melinda was a fantastic tasting host. We signed up on the wait list to become members so we are hoping to make it! Thank you!

This was a wonderful intimate tour through the estates cave, and finished off with a personalized tasting on the grounds. This isn't normally how the tours operate, but due to COVID they had to make adjustments. To be honest, I really enjoyed it this way. I could see that it may be a bit more uncomfortable if the temperatures were much higher.
The wine itself was delicious, and our tour guide Dan was very personable and friendly. You can tell he had a passion for the industry. Bottles are pricey but worth it for the quality you receiving.
Be sure to make reservations! I don't believe they take "walk ins".

What is the best way to get here from downtown Napa? If I drive here are the wine samples provided enough that I won't be able to drive home, or are the samples pretty small? (The tour says there are 6 wine samples)

Google Maps or Apple's mapping app will locate and take you to Jarvis, fairly easily. Look for the gated entrance on your left as you approach the upper limits of the mountain road. It's a pretty drive.
As for the tasting, I believe you will enjoy 5-6 wines, each about 1 oz. pours, so just slightly over a glass of wine. If this is your only winery visit, it shouldn't be an issue with driving, but you will need to make that call. Good luck and enjoy.
