We really enjoyed the reserve. We read that it is hot in the summer and it is. We would go closer to 8:00 next time. We saw no critters. Just one hawk and some lizards here and there. The trails are well marked which I really appreciated. We started at the visitor center and walked approx. 6 miles. It was... More

Our family of 5 (kids ranging from 4 to 14) enjoyed the visitors center, where the park ranger was very helpful and the kids were able to read about some interesting facts of the area. We visited around 11:30 am in 90 degree weather and we enjoyed the frequent breeze and many shaded areas to rest. Our 2.5 mile hike... More

There are dozens of trails and trail segments, most of them 1.5 miles or less, to choose. Or you can connect the segments into longer excursions. There are warnings about snakes and mountain lions, and we did see one fresh snake imprint crossing a trail. There are also warnings about leaving valuables in your car. Lots of nature and wildlife... More

We went in the middle of May (to avoid the dire heat), it was absolutely beautiful! 8.5 mile hike planned out by the friendly staff in the visiting center, don't have any complaints! Hike with a buddy, it's very serene and VERY hot (I imagine) in the summer! If you are in the area, check out a Lake Elsinore Storm... More

Just went for our second hike at Santa Rosa Plateau - this time on the vernal pool and trans preserve trails...what a treat. When we arrived in the morning it was cool, gray, and somewhat foggy and by the time we left it was warm, breezy, sunny, and all of the wildflowers were open and added splashes of color to... More

This is a beautiful place with many walking trails. If you go early enough you may see Bobcats or cayottes. We usually go around 10am and saw a couple of snakes. But most times don't see anything at all. Just the beautiful landscapes.

The plateau also has a visitor center with maps and a variety of nature displays. The historic bldgs (which require a hike to reach) include an old bunk house and other old structures The reserve was once owned by a doctor who raised cattle, and held an annual week-long fiesta.where visitors came via horseback and wagons from all over southern... Beautiful hikes during the fall, winter, and spring. Great ecological diversity. In the summer, everything is dead, dusty, and miserable. I would definitely avoid the preserve during the summer months--120 degrees with rattlesnakes and no-shade is not a good thing. Make sure that you know what poison oak looks like before you go. No trouble if you know what to... More

The trails are marked fairly well and they've done a great job keeping trails clean. Lots of birds, coyotes and critters that look like meerkats but pretty sure they are not! Don't go in if it's hot - there's not a lot of shade.
