Great wines

I love these wines and have for years. Matt is one of the most talented wine makers in the region and a heck of a good guy.

The wine was good yet overshadowed by how awful our tasting room experience was. Rudeness and arrogance does not sell wine.

We love Hatcher and go here when we're heading up to Bear Valley. The price point is mid 20s and we find their wines to be pretty jammy which is what we like. Our friends are wine club members so it also helps that if you buy enough wine, you get a discount. Love the petite syrah and barbera. We... More

I'd be inclined to buy more wines from here if the staff were friendlier. I've been here twice and both times the staff ESPECIALLY the boss/owner (whatever he is) have been pretty yuck. Fortunately the wine makes up for the lack of service and friendliness. I likely wont return particularly given Murphys is a wine Mecca!!!

Arrived half an hour before closing and were told they were closed. The owner was very rude and inebriated. His dog attacked our dog for no reason! Disappointing and unpleasant experience - will not even bother trying their wine.

Their wines are exceptional, but the guy who works there is less than exceptional. Both times I've been there I've found him extremely rude. Not what you would expect.

We have been members of the Hatchery wine club for several years. The wines are excellent and represent a nice cross section of the best varieties in Calaveras County. The tasking room is literally very 'cool' and cave-like. Check it out!

We only had an hour to explore Murphys and managed to taste at five wineries. I wish we'd gone to Hatcher first. We especially liked the Voignier. But what I really liked was what we learned from the super knowledgeable staff about producing wine in the Sierra Foothills. If we return, we'll know more about how to navigate. This winery... More

We tasted wine for $8 per person. Wouldn't call this place fun but an average experience. The server rambled and had difficulty understanding him. Felt it was all business.....usually when we wine taste, servers are outgoing. But glad we came as we learned what wines we like and which ones we didn't.
