the view from this perch gives a feeling of what a bird sees from a very high perch. Not for the faint of heart. The pathways have guard rails so it is very safe.

Visited to watch the sunset; beautiful vantage point to look out over the ocean from the high cliffs. There is a decent sized (free) car park and a marked footpath with hand rails. Venturing off the track isn’t advisable as the drop off is visibly...More

This overlook is lovely but quite as good as the beach itself or going farther north to Stinson beach overlook.

Stopped to check out the Muir Beach Overlook and the views are just stunning. You can see for miles and you're a long way up. The boats down below look like little toys boats you're up so high. It's a great view of the Pacific...More

Drive up to overlook is amazing. Parking lot & picnic tables. Trails to breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. Bathrooms available. So glad we took the time to stop and wander.

A few short hikes, some abandoned army bunkers, but the main reason to visit is the stunning view of the Pacific and the rugged California coast. A stepped gravel pathway takes you to a point on the far edge of the coast and gives great...More

On a cloudy and windy day, We drove up here and couldn't believe the beauty. Even when it was cloudy. Well worth the drive. Continue on the Panoramic Highway for a spectacular drive in the forest with fantastic views.

On my way back to Oakland after a trip to Slide Ranch, the Muir Beach Overlook was well worth the short hop off the main drag...a terrific view!

Muir Beach is not far from Muir Woods. My group walked along a path to the sand that took us through beautiful grasses and flowers. The beach is small, with locals enjoying the shore flying kites and picnicking. Beautiful homes look down from the hills...More

Pretty easy. Take Muir Woods Rd to CA-1 to the Overlook. Cell service is poor in the area so print out a map before heading out. Go to google maps and type in Muir Woods National Monument and Muir Beach Overlook. It's... More

8 nights in Northern California trip (8 Replies)
Hi everyone! Me and my boyfriend are planning to travel to San Francisco/Northern California this year from August 26 to September 3, so 8 nights. We made a tentative itinerary, but are open to suggestions if something is not too expensive or if something in our list isn't worth the time. It would be our first time in Northern California so we are looking to go to the must-see locations, even though we also like unusual things. In short, feel free to make some recommandations even if it's...More

I would do SF then rent a car do Yosemite for 2N and the. Monterey Carmel for 2N YNP hotels sell up to a year in advance so look at booking that right now. The Yosemite forum top questions have info on last minute places and ask the forum for help once you have read them Check Monterey Munras avenue hotels for the duration of your stay. If you have a late am flight drive to sfo directly from Monterey

Muir Woods/Mt Tamalpais trip advice (5 Replies)
My husband and I are planning an early morning day trip while on vacation from SF to Muir Woods and Mt. Tamalpais. Here are my thoughts: Arrive at Muir Woods Park early in the morning and spend a few hours there. Drive down Panoramic Hwy to Hwy 1 to the Muir Beach Overlook and check out the views. Continue from there along Hwy 1 to Stinson Beach, check out the beach and grab something to eat. After we are refueled drive up Panoramic Hwy to Mt. Tamalpais Park and continue up to the East Peak,...More

How to 'do' Golden Gate Bridge (2 Replies)
Hi, We will still have our rental car while in SF (I know it's not recommended, but we are planning a day in San Jose, so we will need the car until at least we do that). We were wondering the best way to see Golden Gate Bridge. I had originally planned (as had been recommended on here some time ago) driving across the bridge, having lunch in Sausalito, then driving to Muir Beach Overlook, Stinson Beach and back to the bridge via Panoramic Highway, and had allowed around 4-5 hours...More

You cannot see the Golden Gate Bridge from the Panoramic Highway even on a good day. Too far, and blocked by a mountain. If your focus is on the Golden Gate Bridge, you can drive on Conzelman Road (Golden Gate National Recreation Area) all the way up to the old batteries. There are many points along the road where you can have good views of the GG Bridge. Walking from the Golden Gate Bridge down to Sausalito (if along Alexander Ave) is not recommended - highway with no sidewalk and lots of...More
