Lake Hemet campground exceeded my expectations in every way. We made a reservation online for a 7/27/21 - 7/30/21 stay at campsite #406. It was during the week so we hoped to avoid the crowds. Weekends are supposedly very busy, but during our stay, we were told only 10-15% of the camp was occupied. On the way up, she got a call from the staff confirming our reservation and gave her information about checking in which I was really impressed about. Check in at the entrance was easy and while we set up our campsite, the camp host, Bill, stopped to say hello to make sure we had any questions answered and made us feel very welcomed. Throughout our stay, he would check on us and provide tidbits about the Lake, things to do on the property, and our kids loved petting Kilian, his HUGE Irish Wolfhound. He definitely made our stay at Lake Hemet a positive one.

Our campsite was for tent camping and was a good sized flat lot with a view of the lake and mountains, some shade from the trees, and easy access to the bathrooms, showers, and dumpster. Each campsite has a concrete picnic table and a concrete firepit. Our firepit did not have a grill, but luckily our friend's site next to ours, #407 had one where we grilled on. The bathrooms have free hot showers and are cleaned regularly. Not all sites have a water spigot so bring a container for holding water and washing dishes. There is no dump station for gray water, so bring garbage bags to throw away solid food waste and plan to haul gray water to the bathroom to flush down the toilet. There are also RV camping sites, yurts (large tee-pee like tents) and cabin rentals all surrounding the lake.

On the property there are sand volleyball courts, a basketball court, tether ball, a horseshoe pit, picnic areas, a swim area with lifeguard(s) and a marina that rents boats and kayaks. The market in front of the entrance has a decent selection of groceries and ice cream that we frequented regularly during our stay for treats and firewood. We swam at the lake 2 days in a row and they let us bring our own raft to hang out on. The lifeguards are friendly and easy going but are very attentive and make their presence known. You will have to get swim bands when you register and complete a form to be able to swim. When it's busy, you will have to pick between morning or afternoon times to swim so they can control the crowds. Bring flip flops since the walk from the parking area to the beach area is about 500 ft and the rocky sand is hot and a little rough on your feet.

Overall, a great camping experience that exceeded our expectations and only a little more than an hour from our home. We will definitely be back for more camping trips here in the future.

Camping at Lake Hemet was an amazing time in a beautiful setting. Don’t forget if you want to go fishing on the Lake to obtain a U. S. Forest Service pass, if you want a $5 day pass you can grab one in Idyllwild or Mountain Center but if you grab one at the Lake Hemet General Store be aware they only sell the annual for $30 for some reason. When we arrived there was snow on the ground and we had firewood delivered for us. The Camp Host’s name was Bill and he was extremely helpful and polite. He checked in to make sure if we needed anything and even gave us a break down of fishing trends and where the best spots were. He was honestly more helpful than camp hosts that I’ve encountered in the past and made the trip much more enjoyable. We did tend camping and while temperatures were below freezing we had a great time having prepared and having brought necessary supplies for the low temperature and slightly windy weather. We look forward to coming back and highly recommend camping in a tent as it brought back a ton of old memories and fun!

We stayed at Lake Hemet the first weekend of August with a total of 3 camping spots reserved. The weather was perfect and our sites were nice and clean when we arrived which made everything move smoother.

Upon arrival our camp host Bill showed up and was probably one of the most friendliest people we have ever encountered at Lake Hemet. Every time he walked by he made sure to acknowledge our camp. He gave us great fishing advice and made sure we didn't run out of ice or fire wood. He was great with explaining the rules and regulations without making any of us feel uncomfortable. Everyone is our camp enjoyed Bills company and we all agreed that Lake Hemet needs more people like him!

The only downside to our weekend was the protocol at this Lake swim area, we showed up during our reservation time only to be made to get in and out of the pool what seemed like every 10 minutes. The lifeguards on duty has no sense of communication to one another and were not friendly at all. The website also posted that there was no floating devices allowed in the swim area but when we got there everyone but our group had one so I highly recommend you guys enforce the rules or change the information on the website.

Overall we will definitely return to Lake Hemet for our annual camping trip and will definitely be requesting Bill's area!!!

We rented a pontoon boat during the August heat wave. Miguel was our person and he was absolutely the BEST. Five stars for Miguel. He was patient, helpful, and informative. There was a storm brewing so he came out onto the lake to check in on us and let us know we'd need to come back to the dock if there was any lightning. He also has beautiful hair.
We loved our day on the lake and highly recommend it. We are also interested in coming back to camp or stay in the cute cabins. The people at the lake store were kind and helpful as well as was the person working the parking booth. Hidden Gem!

We stayed for two nights over the weekend and had a great time. I chose a tent site in the lion camp because it was close to the lake and showers- this turned out to be a great choice for us with two little kids, as the other sites we drove through appeared to have only outhouses. Bill was our camp host, and I must say he went above and beyond to make sure our experience was an enjoyable one. Never have I met a camp host who was so accommodating and friendly. To our delight, the neighboring campsite hired a DJ and we partied in the woods with strangers for the night. The music was off promptly at 10pm (designated quiet time) and everyone was respectful of the rules. The swimming area was a bit disorganized and didn't seem to have much of a system established for entry. At the front gate upon check-in, we were given wristbands for AM and told we could swim AM and PM, just ask the beach for PM passes as we had only been given AM ones. Then we got to the beach and were told to not even come back in the PM session to see if we could be allowed in based on capacity because they wouldn't let us swim both AM and PM. The swim area was rather small and about 60% of it was unused by swimmers because of mud and muck that made the beach inaccessible. I came for the inflatables and was relieved to learn that there was at least some water access for the kids with the swimming area, but that part turned out to be a disappointment. All in all it was a great trip, but the only way I would return is under two conditions- inflatables and most importantly BILL!!

I was able to spend 3 nights there and it was great. Getting there on a Wednesday meant I had the place to myself, Thursday I gained a few more neighbors, and Friday night the place filled up. I brought my own kayaks and morning is the best time to go out because a regular breeze/wind comes up around 1030-1100 and it can make the lake surface a bit more choppy. The bathrooms were clean and plenty of hot water for the showers. We had an AMAZING camp host named Bill that made a point of meeting every camper to see if they had any needs that he might be able to fill. He was friendly and professional and have never met a camp host who put in that much time and effort to make everyone feel welcome. Check-in and Check out went smoothly. The Lifeguards at the swim beach kept a watchful eye on everyone in the water and acted like the trained pros you would expect. Nothing bad to report and we will definitely be returning. Thanks Again to Bill the camp host for doing such a great job. I'm a Happy Camper!

I would not recommend this camp ground unless you have no other options. Did not tell us that we would be in the middle of "permanent" trailers and that we needed 50ft sewer hose to use the hook up. The Lake Hemet store's prices is double or more what you can buy stuff in Idyllwild for!! Electric went out from 10pm to 6am Wednesday night we had no notification! The lake is beautiful. Surrounding areas are nice too. We asked for a credit for the $65 we paid a night for all the things not said but they couldn't give us one. On FB you can't give them a true rating its either Yes or No...no middle ground and for that we should have said NO! I wouldn't stay here again....unless you get a better RV spot not in the middle of the permanent trailers!

Thank you for taking the time to review your experience with us. We are so sorry to hear that the temporary power outage impacted your stay so negatively. It was a scheduled outage for our entire region that the power company said would only last about 20 minutes. That ended up not being the case and our entire campground and city were without power for nearly 8 hours as you know. Our staff should have been much more accommodating in extended a refund to you for that night and I apologize that they weren’t. It would be my pleasure to reimburse you for one night’s stay. Please email me personally with your reservation name and site number so I can do that immediately. I can be reached at akimes@golakehemet.com

We arrived by RV rental for our first visit to Hemet Lake Campgrounds just after the front gate closing time. We input the gate code provided in our reservation and entered without a problem. Camp Host Bill just happened to be making his rounds and helped us locate our campsite and found us some firewood for the first night.

All the campsites have conveniently located, fresh water spigots, trash and outhouse facilities. There's a marina for boat rentals or launch your own small craft. Although swimming, SUP's, sailboats, or other sport watercraft are prohibited.

Be prepared, at 4,000 foot elevation there can be snow flurries in winter, cold nights and frosty mornings into Spring.

The next day we went to the little store at the front gate to get a fishing license, bait, snacks, drinks, firewood, etc. Then to the marina to rent a half day boat. The lake was full of fish, parents, grandparents and grandkids all caught fish from both the boat and the shoreline. Outstanding!

The breeze can get pretty strong on the lake. If there is anything that needs improvement it's the boat anchors. They tend to drag when the breeze is on, making it a challenge to work a fishing spot without constantly having to pull anchor and move back into position.

We all went bike riding around the campgrounds, played Bocce ball, kids enjoyed the hula-hoops, card games, playing catch and roasting smore's around the campfire at night.

Bill came by from time to time during our stay to see if we needed anything or had any questions. He also brought by some little gifts for the young ones. What a wonderful host!

We will return again, with an extra anchor next time.

The campground itself is large and spread out fairly well, and is easy to navigate. The campsites themselves, though, are really close together. We couldn't tell by the map of sites that they were so close. If you enjoy space while you camp this may not be the best, and there are more campgrounds further up the mountain. That aside, the grounds were clean and the bathrooms even had hand sanitizer. There were no locks on the bathroom I went to, which was strange since it wasn't easily identifiable if anyone was using it. The grounds keeper walked around in the morning and ensured there were no issues, which is a first for a campground. I liked the touch, he seemed in tune if he should stop by/linger/move it on and he seemed genuine. Views of the lake were great from our site, but best once all the campers left Sunday morning that were closer and blocking some of the view. Firewood at entrance is over $10/bundle. It burned well, even though it didn't look like it would, but you can get it a little cheaper further up the road in the nearby city. All in all a good campground. We wouldn't go back only because of how close the spaces are, but that's it!

We have been visiting Lake Hemet for the last few years and this trip was by far the best yet! We tend to travel in a large group and rent three to four spots each time. The booking process is easy and Megan in the office was available to answer any and all our questions!
The shining star of Lake Hemet is definitely Bill our camp host! From the moment we pulled into our designated spot Bill’s warmth and welcoming energy was immense. My husband and I have camped all across CA and we have never met a camp host as helpful and accommodating as Bill.
Sometimes when you camp in these big commercialized camp sites the camp host are bitter retired sticks in the mud just sick of people bending their rules and they make the camper feel like they are being yelled at for enjoying themselves NOT BILL!!!! He danced with us, brought us a few big logs, helped us back in our rig, personally shook everyone’s hands to introduce himself and made sure we were following the rules without making us uncomfortable.
He knew we were there to have fun and he was just truly our favorite part of the experience! The kids loved waving to him as he drove by on the golf cart! He almost became a designated part of our camp!
I can’t put in words how wonderful the overall experience at Lake Hemet this summer but I can tell you if was all thanks to Bill!!
We can’t wait to come back next year to see Bill!
