Mount Shasta is a wonderful area, where we stayed we woke up to be able to see the Shasta that morning. It was as breaking taking from that view as it was from all the others. Take the time to add Shasta to your road trip.

I was there to shoot the mountain. I am a photographer. Going late spring, if the snow is going, requires shooting strategically from the north or east. There are plenty of places to stop. I found a radius of about 2-6 miles out was best. As usual, early or late light is best. Use a polarizer. Wait around since the mountain creates its own weather.

Mt Shasta is one of the 7 holy mountains of the world. 26000 came to visit it last year. It has a power CC and presence that is exceptional and palpable. Indigenous peoples have called it the center of our universe. There’s much to see. Worth a visit.

Wow. For some reason I thought I had been up here to see the mountain before, but I was wrong. And I'm happy I decided to take the roadtrip from my SF bay area home to visit and see the mountain in person.
Driving up the 5 I would look at the snow covered peaks in the distance and ask my co-pilot, "is that it? is that the one?"
Well, when you finally see it come into view, there's no point in asking. It's pretty obvious which mountain you're looking at.
I did not come up to ski or hike the actual mountain. Rather I was more interested in activities around the area and visiting those places too. Which was perfect.
I had originally planned on a single day but two was necessary - another day would have been nice as well.
Do some research and check out McCloud, and Weed and Lake Siskyou too!

Driving up to Mt. Shasta is a pleasure, in itself (take Everett Memorial Hwy straight up to Bunny Flat which puts you right at the base). There are several turnouts to view the surrounding area, trees and hills, in the distance. Coming to the area in autumn, the Black Oak trees, poplar and manzanita, are turning lovely shades of yellow, red & orange. It’s an easy drive, not a lot of curves, which is always a relief for those prone to carsickness. Also Bunny Flat is 6,950 ft. in elevation, so altitude sickness isn’t likely either. We did NOT hike to the top but went up a few hundred feet from the parking lot to the meadow. It’s a perfect spot to take a few pictures with spectacular Mt. Shasta in the background.

Mount Shasta is more than just a place to glance at from your car window along I-5! There is so much to do around there in both winter and summer. There are great gear-rental places for skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, climbing, etc. The town is SMALL but the shops and restaurants are surprisingly good! There are lots of great Airbnbs and hotels to stay in and no end to the outdoor activities.

Wierd place. Alot of weirdos there. Shasta county calls it the 3rd Shasta, why? Definitely a wierd spot. People there boast of witch and warlock ties. Nothing very big to do at all. Seems odd.

This is by no means a "must do" site, but if you have the time to stop off and go to the summit (allow about 1:30-2:00 hours) this is a nice detour on a California road trip up the 5 freeway.
From the Forest Service website: The primary access road for Mt. Shasta is the Everitt Memorial Highway, a continuation of Lake Street in the town of Mt. Shasta. Lake Street is also the central exit for Mt. Shasta City (Exit 738). From Interstate 5, take Lake Street east (toward the mountain). You will drive through the business district of Mt. Shasta City before the road climbs a hill and changes names to Everitt Memorial Highway, also signed as county road A-10. There is no visitor center on the mountain itself. The local Ranger Station and visitor information is located in the town of Mt. Shasta at 204 West Alma Street.
The drive to the summit is about an hour round-trip from the city of Mount Shasta (not including parking/hiking/lunching). It's an easy drive with nice views on a clear day. If the day's not clear, not sure it's worth the effort.
There are a few hikes that you can do. I took the Panther Meadows hike in about an hour. It's an up and down hike with a nice loop around the upper meadows. Great photo spot at the upper meadow that had the alpine flowers and the top of the mountain.
The road is closed in winter, so check on access before starting out.
If the weather is nice and the skies are clear, take your lunch up to the summit. There are picnic benches that allow you an amazing view of the mountain top and the hills below.
Hope this review was helpful.

This place is world famous for a reason. The food was so fresh and delicious! We definitely will be back. The decor was so inviting. Service was great and everyone so friendly. One of my top 10 restaurants. I had avocado toast which was amazing.

Hi, I am planning to visit during thanksgiving weekend. It is forecasted to rain/snow a lot. Please suggest me how I should plan. Should I avoid visiting during this time? Would the volcanic tubes and caves be accessible?

Hi thank you for your following post, "So many things to do. I went to the Panther's meadow and went to the main vortex for meditation. Look around and search around, there is so much to see and take in."
Please tell us where is the Main Vortex located about how far from Panther's meadow. Thank you in advance for reading this question.
We are taking our first trip there at the end of August and years of feeling it from our hearts.
Sedona's vortexes are one of our favorite locations and believe the Mt. Shasta's pure energy will be indescribable.

Hola

We're planning to visit Mt Shasta this December 26-28, 2017. We plan to visit the caves, do some snow activity (not skiing), go hiking to some of the water falls, and visit Bunny flats for sure. We will be staying in Redding. We have a sedan Nissan Altima. 1. Would it be ok to visit these spots in our sedan, back and forth from Redding ? 2. Would it be ok to do a day trip from Redding to Crater lake in December ?

We travelled up from Mt Shasta to crater lake and there had been snow on the roads but they had been cleared. I believe we were lucky but The East rim was closed. Bearing in mind this was October 25th so it may be worse in December. I think it would be advisable to check on the weather on the crater lake national park site to save a wasted journey. If it is open it is beautiful .

Do we need a 4WD vehicle to get to Bunny Flat or a sedan car is okay?

I am planning for a birthday weekend getaway in October. Since it is a short visit, (plan to see Burney Falls and McCloud Falls as well), i don't have enough time to climb the mountain. Any suggestion which trail is not to far from the town, easy to access...I just want to see the mountain though from a distance but at least at the foot of the mountain or so....

If you could only make time to see one location, which would it be and why? Mount Shasta or Trinity Alps? Thank you.

I guess my question to you would be what is it you would be doing at either location? Hiking, camping, sight seeing?? Both have great hiking and spectacular views. The Alps have a lot of high lakes that are beautiful as well as rugged cliffs. Shasta is much to offer as well a a quaint little town full of character.
If it's hiking and lake I'd say the Alps. You really can't go wrong either way.
Hope some of that helps.
