Took the Grandkids on their first fishing trip. Everyone on boat caught limits before noon. Kids are wanting to know when we can plan the next trip. Troy the Deck hand is extremely helpful working with the younger kids.

Group of 8 of us ranging in age from 3 to 65. Sun cam out just as we departed the wharf. Came across two humpbacks very near Marina and stayed with them for a fun time getting lots of great pictures. Truly magical day!

If you are not from Northern California and are thinking you want to do a whale watching tour in the Northern California Pacific Ocean - here is my advice (re-read these after you go and you'll wish you gave these more thought before you went):
1. The northern california Pacific Ocean is not the same as the Hawaiian Pacific Ocean. It is ROUGHER and coooolder! If you have never been on a small craft in rough swells (5+ feet), take seasickness pills. You'll be more comfortable on the tour and you can sleep after.
2. Dress in layers - with the top layer waterproof. Heavy fog will get you wet and you will be miserable and cold - even if you aren't 'stomach' sick
3. Don't go out for 4-5 hours, especially if you have kids. Their interest will be over in about 30 mins and the rest of the 4 hours will be miserable for you and the rest on the trip.
4. You don't need a biologist/naturalist on the trip. You won't hear or listen to a quarter of what they're saying. All the boat captains will tell you about the wildlife. When you're seeing whales and dolphins, you are not listening except for the 'there's one!'.The little kids aren't listening.
5. All the tour companies doing whale watching tours go to the same area - where the whales are. You'll see all the competition in the water regardless of which trip you choose.
6. If you want to get closer to the whales, get on a smaller boat. The smaller the boat, the closer they can maneuver - while keeping the regulated distance.

OK - now for our experience with Chris' whale watching. We have taken two other whale watching tours in Monterey bay. I picked Chris because it was 2.5 hours. I remembered our last one - it was raining and 3.5 hours. That was 3 hours too long. When you're miserable, you are really miserable. Chris boat is comfortable, warm and they get right out to where the whales are. They know where the dophins hang out and you see it all. We must have seen 20+ whales - mixture of humpbacks and grey. Hundreds of dolphins. Very close - breathtaking. There's no food - believe me - you don't want food on a whale watching boat on the Pacific ocean off Nothern California.
I highly recommend Chris' tour. We got on the boat and were off while the Monterey Bay Whale Watching - long line - was still standing, barely moving. They are a good company, larger boat, longer tour. We did their tour in the rain ... Wasn't their fault - and we took seasickness pills. We were the ONLY people who did not get sick. People were miserable - cold, wet and sick. Don't be one of them... read my recommendations ... please! And have a great time. This is a really good year to see whales and dophins (and otters) and unless you can get to Maui, the California Pacific is highly recommended and gorgeous - just be prepared.

I would say this was an average experience for deep sea fishing. We went on the full rockcod trip. We caught rockfish limit early so we came back early; however, I would have liked to catch and release or try for some long or halibut. I think we got back to the dock about 2 hours early. I also assumed the price would include live bait as it was expensive. Additionally, I caught a cowcod-obviously i know it’s no take but the deckhand didn’t allow me to take a photo with it and then vented the rockfish (Not encouraged) and put it back without a descending device so it just floated on the surface and was pecked by gulls. Overall, it was an okay experience.

The owner of this company should be arrested for the scam that it's running. My family and I had the scariest and worst experience of our lives going on this trip. The owner knew that the waters was rough when he told us that the waters might be a little rough but was still calling out for customers, like a pimp, in front of his store. The waves were so big I thought the boat was going to capsize. Everybody in the boat got so sick just 30 minutes into the trip that everybody was vomiting by then. The lone crew did not care and his smoking was making me more sick. He was even berating people for vomiting on the boat and not over board. You feel so helpless because pleads to go back were ignored when there was still two more hours of sheer torture to endure. There was definitely no whales and only got to see a few dolphins but people were too sick to care. This was despite assurances by the owner of whales and "thousands" of dolphins. This company is the cheapest because it has the worst boat and staff.

We picked this company last minute because it was $10 cheaper than Princess, but the same length.

Would have rather paid the extra money. I wouldn't go on this if it was only $5.

The boat was fine and we saw whales, but the people are very very very rude. First of all when I walked into the office to pay he seemed irritated, even though I had reservations. Then when I handed him a hundred dollar bill he rolled his eyes and groaned. I was paying for two people, so the total was $70. I'm sorry I didn't have exact change and you had to give me a whole $30. After paying he just kind of looked at me. So I decided to ask where we went next. He said that the guy outside would tell us. The guy outside told us, " turn right on this dock here (pointing),and then take the first left down the stairs." Seems simple enough. Until you see that the first stairs are locked and its hard to tell if that what he means or if he means the big stairs halfway down the dock. So there we waited for our boat. Once people started loading the boat I realized they all were getting out tickets. So I ran up the stairs, down the dock, down the other dock to the office, and when I asked if we were supposed to have tickets, the guy rudely said "Oh i didn't give them to you....sorry." As he proceeded to toss them at me. Then on the boat, the captain ALWAYS put the whales on the left side. Cool. If we were on the left side!!! We, along with half the people, chose the right side of the boat. The captain literally NEVER turned the boat so the whales were on the right side. And we saw a tail more than 6 times. But since I was on the right, and kind of short, I had to hold my camera above heads to see and take pictures.

I agree with reviewers that question how they are still in business. There are tons of other whale watching boats in Monterey. All of which would be better than this one.

My son-in-law, grandson and I had the best day ever fishing on Monterey Bay with Chris's Fishing trip - we caught more fish than we ever thought we could - almost all keepers, even a couple of catch a release pelicans and seagulls - who could not keep from attacking our lines as soon as the fish hit the surface. We were treated to a massive pod of dolphins and even a couple of seals who ventured into our fishing area to entertain us. We also saw whales (no extra charge for these extras). And to top off our fishing experience, we even had the enjoyment of sharing in the harvesting of Dungeness Crabs and luckily, we each were given our limit of crab (6) along with our cleaned fish at the end of our day. It was truly a memory filled day and our deck hands were very professional and accommodating. I would very highly recommend this wonderful experience for dads, grandads and kids of all ages, well maybe 8 and older as there are 6 very sharp hooks per line and one must be extra careful when handling the pole, bait etc.

Went on the crab combo and it was fine until the Captain pulled up to another boat and started harrassing them and making some racially toned slurs on the loudspeaker. Totally unnecessary and made the trip a downer.

We were skeptical to go on a whale watching trip, but evidently October is a great time to go. Be sure to take jackets and if you are motion sick at all - DO NOT EAT BEFORE YOU GO. My sweetheart gets sick on boats, but we took every precaution including him sitting down in the back of the boat and he was fine the whole trip. The ocean is rocky! And we had success seeing whales - for over 45 minutes. Watching them eat, swim and even hoards of sea lions swarming to catch the leftover pickings from the whales after they scoop their fill.
I didn't appreciate the couple on board with their little girl who were drinking beer and talking loudly - and they both got sick and threw up over the side. All kinds of people.
The crew took care to remind us to practice distancing and keep our masks on (though this one couple didn't) because of the COVID situation. But we felt safe with them and appreciated they went out of their way to capture the attention of the whales.
This was a 2.5 hour trip and it takes at least 40 minutes to get far enough out to see anything. OH and we also saw a lot of jelly fish!

I love fishing with a passion and was very excited for this trip. I was told we would go to Big Sur but due to lack of customers we did not. I did limit out on cod. I caught a ling cod and was unable to keep it because it was too small. Despite a local on the boat had a smaller one. Troy is one of the rudest deck hands I have experienced. He was rude to my GF who was new to fishing. Got upset when I cut 3 feet of line. He’s so passive aggressive he’s lucky no one has thrown him off the boat. I was told we would only need to tip for the fish cleaning. Well troy has a set price he charges after he cleans. $5 dollars a fish that’s insane. I paid it, got ripped off on the lures prices and cleaning. The desk staff was nice. And the captain was a good guy. However if troy is ever on a boat when I want to book it I will not go out. I refuse 100% you will max out on cod for sure. But troy is not worth putting up with his passive aggressive nature.
