Got a little sea sick, but I'm prone to that, otherwise it was a lot of fun. We saw some humpback whales, sea lions, and dolphins

Had the pleasure of taking the whale watching cruise with Princess Monterey Whale Watching while we were in the Bay Area for the National Championship. Incredible experience. Sea lions bid us farewell as we left the dock, then we had the pleasure of following 5...More

Nice boat ride. Never seen that many Rissos Dolphins around before and never seen that many seasick humans around either... :) Good knowledge from the staff and overall a nice daytour on the Monterey bay.

We took a whale watching trip after Christmas and saw 2 humpback and 2 grey whales still withing the Monterey Bay, which was nice as that meant no rough seas and plenty of time to watch the whales rather than spending most of the trip...More

My family of four: Husband (51), Me (50), Son 1 (15), Son 2 (12) prebooked online at the website. We were there 45 minutes before scheduled launch. We booked for the lower deck only because the top deck was sold out. The boat became exceedingly...More

Jan 3, 2019 was a stellar day in the MONTEREY Bay. Princess Whale watching was great. The boat was clean, crew extremely kind and knowledgeable. We found s pod of 5 gray whales that kept us entertained. I will definitely do it again.

Let me preface this review by acknowledging that whales are natural wonders and there is never a guarantee of sightings or predicted behavior. I get it and I understand it. We have been on different whales tours in the Pacific in this area as well...More

I'd booked the tickets for this online from home before we left for the trip and I think I chose the right one. Sure there's a boat and you get to see whales, that's to be expected (but not guaranteed). But the boat is great,...More

12/26/2018 Glad we are on a large boat, seas a little rough from the wind. Accommodations are excellent, professional informative narrative during the cruise. The crew checks on us frequently and makes sure younger children had life vest on and did not allow running or...More

It was on Atlantis. I wasn't aware that there was an open deck option. We were able to move around the boat inside and out. If there is, definitely select the deck option. We actually smelled the whales breath as they... More

We paid $40 for lower level per person. If you want better view on the upper deck, the upgrade is $20 more, if I remember right.

Monterey Area Itinerary Help/Recommendations (4 Replies)
My wife, her parents, and myself will be staying in Pacific Grove for 2 nights August 5-7th. Please let me know if my timeline seems practical, and if there is anything else we should check out along the way. Thank you. Friday - Leave SF early, drive down hwy1 and stop in Santa Cruz for lunch and to check out the boardwalk. Arrive in Monterey that afternoon and get settled in. Any recommendations for other stops along this route? Friday Night - Drive over to Carmel to drink wine, check...More

The nice thing about Big Sur is that you don't have to walk long distances to enjoy many of its sights. Bixby Bridge has parking right next to the bridge. McWay Falls has parking right alongside the highway you can pull into where you can view the falls over a fence line without entering the park. There are also a number of Vista Point turn outs you can pull into to enjoy the views from your vehicle. I would say a hike through the redwoods to Pfeiffer Falls inside Pfeiffer Big Sur...More

Which whale watching company? (1 Replies)
Top rated on TA seem to be Monterey Bay Whale Watch, Princess Monterey Whale Watching and Chris' Fishing Trips & Whale Watching. Monterey Bay Whale Watch seems to offer the longest tour but I think the three hour trips offered by Princess and Chris will be long enough for us and leave us with enough time later in the day to see/do something else. Of Princess and Chris, which trip is the best?

What criteria does one apply to best ? And I doubt most people would have been on both to give you that feedback. Ratings on TA for hotels tours etc are an enigma. I would read the reviews and go with the one you like. Don't overrun this one
