Although California History is a bit later than the history of the rest of the country, Monterey was California's first Capitol. Although currently closed, this site is open during Monterey's amazing "Christmas in the Adobes" even, held the first week of December. Period clothing, food, luminarias ... in short? Monterey as it was in the 1860s.

We went to see and read the historical plaque at Caliornia's First Theatre. It is located in the Monterey State Historic Park.

Jack Swan built the adobe theater in 1846-47. It was used as a lodging house and tavern. It was used as a theatre in 1850 when US army officers from Colonel Stevenson's New York Volunteers produced plays and showed them there for a fee.

The First Theatre will take a few minutes to see. If one wants to see more of the historical buildings in Monterey State Historic Park it can take several hours.

We stumbled upon this while walking around the nearby area and we were so happy to find it. You can only see it from the outside but it is still pretty neat to see.

This bit of history is very cool and still significant today. In a state known for its entertainment industry, this is an amazing landmark as to where it all began!

It's a great place to see a play (mostly revivals of old plays) Small and cozy. There are occasional concerts and other events held in the theater.

The Theater is a beautifully preserved building right near the wharf. It was not open to go in when we walked by but we could peak through the windows and see. Worth taking a stroll by is you are in the neighborhood.

Only takes a moment of your walking tour but cool that the First Theatre ... extremely tiny room theatre that is ... is still around to view. Take a moment to gander.

The picture doesn't show the theater, it's a block up the hill and has been closed for many years now. The location is Scott and Pacific Street.
